Sooo, spawn timers are now netvars.....

(Bainshie) #1

So since SD are seemingly looking towards the competitive issue that defence always wins, the questions are simple.

1: Has anyone noticed any changes to Cvars/stopwatch spawns in this patch.

2: If not, when are we going to see some balance.

The weapon balancing is a good start, but this is the real reason nobody is really playing this competitively.

Stopwatch tracks time better holds and completion percentage it looks like in the picture and looks to maybe use XP as tiebreaker? Is that your impression from the photo? I am on Xbox so can only speculate. Sorry.

He’s talking about the respawn timers for competetive play. It’s a well known fact in the PC Competetive circle that the defense team’s respawn timers are always way too short, which makes setting a time on Stopwatch modes very difficult for the attacking team.

EDIT: This:

Balance

[li]Added map spawn timers to Netvars for future tweaking[/li][/ul]

Yea this ^ Basically I’m wondering have they changed any of the times, or are there cvars now to do so?

If not, any word from SD on what the plan is?

It looks like they’ve added the variables for spawn times to their netvars, which means they can easily play around with the times for all the maps at a later date. That’s what I understand from reading the notes.

This is what I took from the Patch as well.

(neks) #7

It kind of concerns me that it was implemented as Netvars instead of server-side cvars.

(riptide) #8

Hopefully it’s for each specific spawn point… otherwise there is no reason for them to not have it as a server cvar. Other than them thinking they know better and want to shove more crap down the competitive scenes throat. Thinking they can balance the game for both… hell they can’t even balance it for one.

Sorry btw… I pretty much lost faith with this last update.

(Exedore) #9

More on this later, but netvars are more important for console balance. This wasn’t really a fix specifically aimed for competitive play.

(Crytiqal) #10

Thanks again consoles -_-"

(its al bout security) #11

what he said :D, if they only applied it to your Cvars us console guys would never get the fixes without updates, and having to wait for updates is no fun.

(Exedore) #12

Okay, I’ll explain more. The spawn timer netvars only effect the dynamic timers in objective mode, which is far more prevalent on consoles. We need those to help balance those maps overall, as for some maps there wasn’t much we could change to address any issues.

It’ll effect anybody playing objective mode on PC as well (when the times get changed, that is).

(tokamak) #13

You can update the PC as much as you want but there’s indeed a limit to consoles. Also, spawn timers don’t necessaries have to be the same over all platforms. Different controls means there’s different behaviour which will lead to different balance.

(Bainshie) #14

Yea but would it have really been that hard to add the few lines of code to make a cheat protected cvar access this info as well?

Don’t make the mistake of all ‘fixes’ being focused at consoles only.

Ok, and when do you plan to release something useful for competetive gaming on PC? It should be pretty obvious that we need tweaked/tweakable spawn timer settings for StopWatch (which is THE competetive mode, fyi) since the defense is too strong. I hope you will add netvars or cvars for that asap.
