Something simple...

(SteelRat) #1

I stumbled on to this problem once before and now I can’t remember what I did to solve it.

I created a basic outline for a map with some terrain and some basic buildings and suddenly I can’t use Airstrikes as an Lieutenant?
Gives me: “Aborting, can’t see target” as it sometimes does in the game when there is some object blocking the path to the sky.
And there is nothing blocking the view where I try this since it is all over the map…I am confused.

Your skybox needs to use a sky shader.

The directive; q3map_sky or q3map_nonsolid will allow for airstrikes.

Thanks.
I figured it out by the time you posted
The best thing with this forum is that you always get a good response.

:bump: Yeah, quite old, I know. I’m new to this whole mapping thing, and I had the same problem, it just says ‘Aborting, cannot see target’. I’m curious, how do I add a sky shader?

(thore) #8

I’m quite impressed since you must have used the search function to dig this old thread out of this forum’s dungeons…
(No I won’t post the dancing banana here) Good thing first: there are already complete sky shaders so you don’t have
to write them on your own. Bad thing: not all of them are working  I found some shaders working correctly and some
shaders that are broken. For a working shader try textures/fueldump/fueldumpsky.

(I’m assuming you do already know how to build a skybox and apply a texture to it)

Did you generate a tracemap for your map?

In the console type the following:

\developer 1
\generatetracemap

http://shaderlab.com/q3map2/shader_manual/contents.html

read the introduction parts first then pursue further

(BlackHawk7) #11

@thore: Yep, it works! Thanks for the texture advice, it works great

@MrLego: Now that’s what I was looking for the tracemap, thank you so much.

@ EB: Thanks for that, it’s really gonna help me when I get into shaders. I used to do texturing and shader-ing in Jedi Knight 2 and Jedi Academy, but then the game got kind of boring, so I went onto this.

EDIT: @MrLego: How do I un read-only sv_cheats, 'cause to use \developer 1 you need to have cheats enabled. I try sv_cheats 1 and everything… but it really doesnt work.

(WeeBull) #12

start ET and open console and type this:
/sv_pure 0
/g_gametype 2
/devmap [mapnamehere]
the devmap command let’s you start your map with cheats enabled

Ahh, I see, thank you.
