Some Statistics After 500 Matches

(Xyfurion) #1

After tracking the maps of 500 matches in Dirty Bomb, I can finally display the results.

As expected, Chapel was picked the most, and Dome was picked the least. Surprisingly, Trainyard was picked almost as often as Underground. Also surprisingly, Terminal and Bridge were not picked that much in comparison to Trainyard.

This is a display of the percentage for each map. Chapel being the most at 22.4%, and Dome being the least at less than 10%.

Server region: Europe
Maps available to pick: Varies depending on map that was just completed and on RNG.
Players or Game Picked Map: Mostly the players. Sometimes DB picked it.
Amount of People in Server Before Lock-in: Usually over 7.
Number of Votes per Stage: Varies from 0 to 9 usually.
Levels of Players: Varies from 1-100+
Time of Day of Match: Usually peak times for EU (18:00-22:00 UTC).
Date of Match: Between August 2016-January 2017.

This project took just around 3-4 months to complete and tally up all the matches. Too bad I did not tally up wins-losses or performance. Next time I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So basically two of my favourite maps get picked the least… I’m not surprised

Disappointing that Trainyard is picked so often.

Wow out of 500 id say ive seen dome succesfuly voted for 3 times in my game plays

(MisterBadmin) #5

Hell yeah, numbers.

Give them to me. Intravenously.

I personally think you are also missing things like:
server region
maps available to pick
whether players or DB picked the map
amount of people in the server before lock in
number of votes per stage
levels of players
time of day of match
date of match

I will probably think of more later.
I just think their is a lot more to take into account I guess.

I have obliged.

Honestly, I was surprised and disappointed Terminal got picked so little.

STATISTICS!

I honestly do not mind Trainyard, but I would rather Bridge and Terminal get played more often.

I mean… still less than 10% of matches.

Wonder if the MOFO update has somehow a negative impact on how often is Bridge picked.
It was my prefered map before it got changed

I like it more now. It was frustrating to play attacker on Bridge (especially first objective) before the MOFO update, now the first objective is less frustrating. I wish last obj was better though.

The first section is just so damn messy. It is difficult for the Attackers to take, but if they miraculously do, and capture the forward spawn, it’s incredibly difficult for the Defenders to take it back.

Totally agree. Trainyard is okay but it’s still my least favourite. I would definitely prefer it if Terminal, Bridge and Dome would be played more.

I agree, I dislike Terminal because it almost always ends in spawn camping.

I consider it even worse than Trainyard was in some regards, I’m surprised SD didn’t overhaul it as well.
It can be a very fun map, but most of the time it’s just 12 minutes of boredom.

I personally feel that the generator leading up from the subway tunnel shouldn’t be in the map. If the defenders are able to get in there and destroy it in the first place, the match already wasn’t balanced.

Always sad to see Dome being skipped over again and again.
Dome is a great map but it’s being played wrong. Teams always end up stuck on the objective while the attackers have to walk miles. Mainly on the last objective. That last part of the map can make up for some great gameplay when the defense lines are occupied by the defenders, it becomes a fair game instead of a mindless suicide run.

Underground is my favourite map, and I’d bet it’s second most picked after Chapel. So no suprise there.
But I still don’t understand why so many people like Chapel so much

One of the reasons it’s my favourite map is because unlike other maps, where certain mercs are often unsuited (like Arty in most of Underground), Chapel just seems better suited to all mercs, rather than just a few classes.

It’s also the most straightforward map behind Underground. Large, complicated maps like Dome are harder to learn and more daunting to most new players.

Chapel is a lot more dynamic as well. It’s similar to Bridge in this regard, but a lot larger. Escorting the EV even a meter changes the front lines completely.

It’s overall the most balanced in my opinion too, with Underground in close second. Followed by Dome, then Bridge, Trainyard, and then Terminal. Granted things like Arty spam are issues in Chapel, but for the most part it’s very good.

(Xenithos) #17

What’s funny is that my guesswork on order of maps picked by majority of players perfectly agreed with your data. I’ve had many days where all I play is Trainyard, Chapel and Underground for an entire day. Chapel almost always wins if it’s there. And when it doesn’t strangely enough Bridge is usually the winner.

(Xyfurion) #18

I think it’s because Bridge is also an EV map. I love EV maps, so I think Dockyard will also become one of my favorites.

(bgyoshi) #19

Makes sense about Chapel, too bad it’s the only map I vehemently refuse to play. Though, seeing the stats for the 3 US regions would be excellent

(Xyfurion) #20

Don’t think I will torture myself by playing a Statistically significant number of games to gather data in US regions. Maybe when I travel there this summer.
