Please no friendly fire, this game’s pace is too fast to have that. It’d make the game slower since we’d have to check and be sure before and while we’re firing someone doesn’t do something stupid.
Some problems I have with this game as of late
if you are playing the game and are so poor as to be unaware of where your teamamtes are, what roles they are playing and details like their HP / weapons etc you just are not that good at FPS games. Maybe get better at the game 1st so that you may formulate an educated opinion before voicing your say.
As a concession it would possibly work to keep those kiddie “under rank 6 only” servers FF disabled. New players and the noob are often hard to seperate. All other servers should be FF enabled optional / a even mix.
game is TOO fast. Slowing it down is welcome and will add to the pacing. Firefights will be just as tense, but not as hectic.

What about just FF on nades/arty im getting a bit sad when a def is defusing while skyhammer is letting it rain all the time. unable to see the defuser and he doesnt even care for it.
To the original post, what is wrong with having a strong sniper headshot? If u go for the DPS (Damage per second) it might be INCREDIBLY high but if a fragger/sky hits 3 headshots in closecombat he does exactly the same damage but once u shot ur 1 bullet as a vas you are out of combat for nearly a second… if u hit every bullet u frigging DESERVE to be rewarded with the insta kill and gib if u dont hit every bullet you are just an slow firing fragger whos TTK is nearly the same.

Why would he care? there is NO friendly fire, so obviously people spam their abilities without a second thought.
That is exactly the problem. Once people have to consider their teammates, they WILL be more careful when spamming airstrikes, or even just shooting. Either that or some XP/ingame$$ punishments for each teamkill that the victim considered justifiably punishable.
vasili is literally the most balanced merc in the game, will be completely useless if he can’t 1hk. If you’re constantly getting hs, adad crouchspam and throw some jumps in, if you’re still constantly getting hs then it’s just a very good sniper
It’s hard to say how exactly the game should be balanced from here on forward. However, I think that just like every other class, the sniper should be part of a team effort rather than a egomaniac class that can score kills/gibs without any team support. That’s what seems to be exactly what some posters here are asking the sniper to be, though.
In my opinion, the sniper is a support class. He can fire long ranged shots at priority targets to weaken them so they go down very fast in a firefight. He can, with semi-automatic rifles, also channel the movement of the opposing team by creating suppression on certain routes. While the instakill on torso hit on Aura is debatable, the instagib on headshot is certainly not necessary to fulfill this function adequately.
If anything, sniper should only be able to instagib each other to reinforce the sniping/counter-sniping mechanic. However, the sniper should not be a class that instagibs any other class from anywhere within the line of sight without being in any considerable danger of being harmed himself. If you want that, go play Quake with godmode on.
One option to balance the sniper would be a measure similar to what was done in Quake Wars: give sniper rifles a damage fall-off after a certain distance. This would of course have to be carefully balanced so as to not make the class useless, but it could help greatly in ameliorating the sniper wars phenomenon.
As for the suggestion of introducing only partial friendly fire, I think that friendly fire, if introduced in all game types, should be all-encompassing. New players need to learn early on that they need to be careful. Starting them out without friendly fire would only make them pick up bad habits (as many already have in the beta, like indiscriminate spam), which is hard to correct later. Keep in mind that there are not only veteran players in this game, but also those who are new to competitive online FPS such as Dirty Bomb. Since it will be free-to-play, it will pose only a low entry threshold, yet a fairly steep learning curve due to the game’s pace. Taking away from that will only hurt players in the long run.
good points about snipers outlaw. Add to that they do get an smg for in close fighting and the games auto heal etc etc they can be stupidly unbalanced at middle but esp long range
the idea to disable FF in the “under level 6 only” servers was more a concession to not overwhelm new players with a steep learning curve. Tho i agree with you: bad habits might be formed for that.
I mean all u have to do is read this forum for just how many people cant even imagine how FF enabled could possibly work in a fast paced objective based FPS to see how many people just have no idea.
Hello!!! Literally over a decade in ET and then QW with FF enabled with Zero game breaking issues - where are these people getting the whole “FF enabled will make DB unplayable”???

I don’t understand why people seem to think that having Vasilli not insta-gib with a headshot is a good idea. The only thing he’d be good for is getting kills but he wouldn’t be able to keep anybody dead. He’d be a completely worthless class if the other team had even one medic that knew what they were doing. Right now it takes a significant amount of skill to be effective as Vasilli against players who actually know what they are doing.
Also, if you can’t hit a low HP Vasilli from distance you might actually want to go play Quake because the guns in this game are pretty accurate and you can easily counter bad Vasilli’s and annoy the hell out of the good ones to the point that a lot of them will switch out.
And I say this as a person who barely touches the class.
I’d only welcome friendly fire if it’s optional. This means that you leave players the choice to play with or without, competitive or not. implementing friendfly fire servers and giving player the possibility to run competitive friendly fire games or not is the best thing to do, because giving people the choice is just always the best thing when it comes about those kind of subjects. There’s people that love FF like RuleOfBookz, and poeple that absolutely hate it like me. Implementing FF and normal servers would be nice for both kind of people, as well as implementing a “friendly fire” option button for competitive matchmaking.
People who wants FF gets FF, people who hates FF can keep playing without on both competitive and casual games. Everyone is happy.
In my opinion the game feels totally ridiculous and unplayable without FF.
There is just sooo much spam and no risk in it at all… especially 8v8 servers are totally dumb.
WE NEED FF ASAP

I quite disagree with that. Competition benefits from one thing above all else: Consistency. Friendly Fire is not contentious enough to make it optional IMO. It’s a competitive feature, and there is no reason not to force it on for competitive play.
Pubs are a different matter. I still don’t believe it’s significant enough to make it optional (it can be forced off), but whatever.

Yet I see no reason to not let people run competitive games without Friendly Fire if they want to. Consistency or not. People should have the freedom to choose they gamemode options, competitive matchmaking or not. If consistency is a problem for you, only play FF competitive, and if competitive leagues feels like the game is much better with FF then no problem. Just let people who does not want FF having the choice, as well as people who wants FF in casual as well as in competitive too.

you absolutely need consistency cause otherwise you are splitting the community.
A game where one time you can shoot mines to blow up anybody next to them, and another time they only work against the proxy who planted them will be an awful competitive experience to behold.
according to devs on stream today, they have internally tested friendly fire and just felt that it didn’t fit with Dirty Bomb. of course this may change.
I swear I have played with friendly fire enabled on during the alpha(s). (maybe I am mistaken)
