Some ideals for the next merc: Turtle

(MilkyBear) #1

As you can see from the E3 trailer, Turtle is an engineer with a deploy-able shield that provide cover for your teammates.

But his shield in game currently is not as big as they shown in the trailer. It only provide enough cover for 1 people while crouching. Having an alternative cover is nice, but since in DB you have to move all the time, then his ability seems really off to be compared to other mercs.

So my idea is it would be nice if he got another ability for his shield. By pressing “E” will raise up his shield to work as a riot shield (the same thing in BF4), he can’t sprint while holding it, he can’t shoot while holding it, but he can use it as a melee weapon up close. It would be amazing to see Turtle using his riot shield and followed by Fire Support Mercs.

His riot shield does not take damage from bullets, but still take damage from explosive, if it explodes in front of the shield, he only take 70% of the damage, if it explodes beside or behind, he will take full damage.

So how to counter:

  1. He can’t sprint while using it, that means you can flank him easily.
  2. Nader, Fletcher, Fragger will have no problem taking him out.
  3. You can shoot his legs while he’s standing up.

That was my ideal, what do you guys think.

It’s probably best to wait to see how it is against other players, though it doesn’t seem like much to me.

Yeah i just wanted to have a real supporter that could provide cover for the team to push. Not the “i shoot people, you push” kind like Rhino and Fragger.

So… Will he be the next merc? :open_mouth:

Well since he showed up along with Phantom in the trailer (which in the game now), so there is a high chance Turtle will be next (his shield is fully textured in game though) or it could be Phoenix. I don’t know, but they all seem to be cool.

(Backuplight) #6

Could be Phoenix next, but I assume that Turtle and Phoenix are the next coming since they’re the only two not re-introduced yet but featured in the Scrubs trailer.

2 mercs in 1 update, now that what i’m talking about.

I’m really curious about generic soldier guy, think he’ll be Javelin or did they go through the trouble to make a character for the trailer?

(MilkyBear) #9

I think they just replace Skyhammer’s face for that guys, not a big deal lol.

(Potato_Ladder) #10

My money is on made a character just for the trailer cause he was generic.

(DB Genome editor) #11

He’s presented as a proper solider (aka scrub B) ) not a merc, so for sure he was made up for the trailer.

(Jostabeere) #12

I want a big force-shield which can block whole entrances but can let teammates through on both sides.

(WolfWithAKnife) #13

I really do want more defensive characters to hold places. I like the take and hold nature of the game.

(Vexed) #14

In a straight up gun fight, sure, a low cover element that you can just about crouch behind isn’t terribly useful. But think about the impact this will have on objective dynamics. Some locations (looking at you, stage 1 trainyard) are heavily focused on your ability to keep a single location in your field of fire. It’s very hard to set c4 on these things because the sightlines are fairly open, and similarly it’s difficult to defuse for the same reasons. To achieve either of these, the current metagame requires the death of a good chunk of the opposing team before you can make an attempt without being riddled with bullets faster than you can say “poor decision-making”.

Now imagine Turtle rocks up and drops a shield, blocking the sightlines between that machine gun nest and the objective. Suddenly, he or his teammates can set or defuse c4 with a much greater degree of safety - his enemies will need to walk right up to the objective in order to get a clear shot, and from this location they are every bit as (or even more) exposed as the guy cradled behind Turtle’s shield.

Now obviously this defence is not perfect - and that’s for the best. Nobody would like it if there were no workarounds for any one merc’s signature. As an obvious example, grenades of all sorts are still going to give you a rough time while you cower in the relative safety of a Turtle shield. But I don’t think the shield is as counter to the ethos of this game as you imply.

it would be cool if the generic soldier was introduced into dirty bomb under the name gen
he would be stereotypical battlefield assault, he’d have ammo packs and health bags using assault rifles and heavy pistols

also, I think turtles shield needs to be made a little higher and longer
