Some help needed

First of all, hi!

My name is Bob and I am new in mapping. My objective is to once make a trickjumping map for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

I donwloaded GTK radiant 1.5.0 and looked up some topics here for tutorials and i came with this one: http://www.hummerdesign.com/tutorials/et_start.html
I made the box and everything but when I try to save the boxmap it apparently does not save the map and when i try to compile it with the Q3Map2: (single) BSP -meta thing it gives the following error:

Error opening C:/Program Files/GtkRadiant 1.5.0/Mijn maps/boxmap.map: No such file or directory

Hello and welcome to the forums! Looks like you have wrong paths. As the map file should be found in (do save as to save it here):

C:/blabla/my-W-ET-installation/etmain/maps/boxmap.map

Then press P (preferences) - Go to paths and check that the engine path points to the following folder:

C:/blabla/my-W-ET-installation/

Also, I can advice you at this point to make a new separate ET installation for mapping and testing only in case you haven’t yet. Saves you some trouble. And it is better to test with 2.60b.

Okay i saved it into the right folder in the ET installation. Set it to there at preferences but now the script screen does some things and then it does the same. When I lookup the map in the folder i can see it just isn’t there…

Copy the whole log (after you’ve tried to compile) and put it inside

 tags. The log that is in the white window at the bottom of GTK.

Looks about right. Obviously your map file is not in the maps folder. What happens when you try to save it there? And where is it saved, or do you start from the scratch everytime you start GTK? You also can manually try to move it there if save as fails.

Actually when I save it it says nothing, but when I look it up in the folder it is not there… so I have to start from scratch every time…

Maybe you have a problem saving a new map file, it is not unheard of. Go to your maps folders, rename goldrush.map. Open it in radiant, press I, delete, do your box, press save (not save as) and try to compile.

Isn’t this just a compatibility error on windows 7 with gtk radiant?

Stealth, that’s just what I suggested above. :tongue: Just did not come to my mind at first, because I don’t have such issues with Win7&GTK 1.5.0. Neither on my laptop nor my PC. I have only a small gfx glitch on both, otherwise everything work like they should.

Ah thanks alot, this has helped and i can play the map now!

But still another question.As I am trying to make a Trickjump map, I would like to test it with the Trickjump mod. Is there anyway to do this?

Yes ofcourse. I have tested all my maps, tj or not with Etpro tho. It has nice dev features. But to test with tjmod/etpro:

  1. Make a clean installation, if you have not yet.
  2. Download the mod from the mod’s site and install it (server files too! You only download client side files from ET servers)
  3. Make a shortcut of your ET.exe, right click and go to properties, and look for target box, it would look something like:

C:\blabla\my-ET\ET.exe (on some systems it will have " ", if it does, leave them as they are)

  1. After the path, add something like this (do note 1 space between everything…):

+set fs_game tjmod +g_gametype 2 +sv_pure 0 +devmap boxmap

tjmod is the name of the folder where tjmod is installed. If you want etpro, write etpro there.

  1. The end result in target box should look something like this:

C:\blabla\my-ET\ET.exe +set fs_game tjmod +g_gametype 2 +sv_pure 0 +devmap boxmap

  1. Ready! Now when you press your shortcut, it should start up the mod and load the map aswell.

Thanks this should work! Only problem now is that it says it can’t find the boxmap.bsp file… I copied it from the other installation to the new installation etmain folder so it should work right?

Yes it should work. Maybe you copied accidentally a wrong file? Try to test with the old way in your new installation.

Cool i found out what was wrong. The path was still at my old wolfenstein folder. So when I build the map it would put the files in that installation. Changed it and it works perfectly fine now!

Thanks alot for your help, I created my first gamma and it also has a teleport:D

You’ll probably hear it when I have more questions:)
