Solo competetive is suicide

Hey there,

I experienced something really nasty today. When you enter a competitive scenario, you expect people who are serious and you want a “balanced game”.

My scenario is, I played a game where the enemy had 3 premade cobalt 2s and my team mates where 2 unranked and 2 gold 5s. To top it off, my team kept getting that spawn as team mate bug which more so killed any chance we had (map being church…).

Now I understand that the player base that goes toward competitive is fairly small hence balancing will always be an issue.

But I think, solo rank should be solo, as in all players on both teams can only be solo players.
if you’re partying up, then you should only get matched with parties, it’s only fair considering playing vs 2 or more people who have synergy is a vastly different experience than 5 randoms playing together.
I also think there should be 2 ranks, one for solo and one for party to further showcase someone’s capabilities.

I’ve solo qued a few times, and the only real problem I’ve come across is a party full of players who are just plain terrible.

Terrible comms, terrible merc composition, and terrible pushes and holds.

But then again, Counter Strike has that to so…

In CS:GO at least everyone has the same Matchmaking rank.

@Watsyurdeal I like you, i like you a lot. Wubba lubba dub dub!!!

Which is anyway completely useless if you do a solo que. I play around LEM/ Supreme and it’s still full of just boosted , clueless people  (also even more after recent VAC ban waves, where everyone and his sister are LE rank like np)

Solo ques in any kind of game are for masochists, really

Unless the game’s devs have the common sense to not allow premade teams into the same queue. I’ve been playing a lot of Heroes of Storm (a MOBA with 5v5 combat), and they split their competitive into Hero League and Team League. Hero League only allows solo or duo queue, while Team League requires a full team of 5. It’s not an ideal solution, as teams of 3 or 4 can’t play in competitive, but it does get the job done. Even with an MMR system that is pretty flawed it is extremely rare to see clearly stacked teams.

Would take premades ages to find a match, and I am talking AGES. Hardly any other premades out there. And you gotta specify what kind of premades. 2-3? Or 5? 4?

(AdmiralTeddy) #8

@halse “3+” a duo is still technically ok
but I mean, at least when it matches premades, they shouldnt be 6 ranks higher than the enemy team…

totally agree, this would be perfect for matchmaking:

a) the reasons the matchmaking is unpopular in the first place is precisely the requirement to find a team of 4-5 players to form a premade or GET STOMPED
b) having solo/duo queue would introduce people to the more serious 5v5 DB setting, and put them against equally skilled opponents, thus build up the MM popularity
c) the 4-5 premades might find a shortage of players at the beginning but:

  • they will have more players to play against in the long run
  • they will be more inclined to look for pugs and/or participate in cups
  • waiting more is still better than yawning whilst fullholding 2 opponents that didnt ragequit for 15min on first objective

Really? Cause my duo stomps teams completely. ._.

We also really need a way to view players you recently played with. Nothing is more frustrating than trying add some one on steam and they leave before you can get to their profile :frowning:

(AdmiralTeddy) #12

@Haise well as is with mostly any premades who have communication, but I believe 2 people are much easier to defeat than 3, because they’re still technically only 2 people with good communication… again this depends on the players (e.g I have a noob friend that if I duo with i’d lose 2900%) but it also depends on the randoms you get and if they communicate and take a good role…
but yeah, you’re right for the most part.

(AdmiralTeddy) #13

@3n1gm4 far as I know, most games allow for you to shift tab and use the “view players” feature so you can add people that you’ve played with recently… I’d reckon it’ll arrive for db soon enough!

(Klyxes) #14

I know that problem very well. i lose 90% of all my solo games. my solution came when i played pub and asked competent players to be friends to q with. luckily i stumbled upon a dude that has teamspeak with around 10 other good players so i dont have to search for more people anymore.

2 years I spent trying to climb the solo que in league. 2 years. Got to like, one inch away from gold (bigger deal there than in DB).

I’ve seen some shit man. Shit that would make lesser man cry themselves to sleep.

Welcome to my hell.
