Solid models

(BaronBlabla) #1

When I create a model, and test it I can walk through it. I have always used clips around it to prevent this, but is there another way to make the model solid? Or maybe a faster way?

Not as far as I know.

There is however the snowrock models (as seen in railgun and fueldump) that, for some reason, do not need clipbrushes… they are already perfectly clipped.

I don’t think the rocks are models, but might be wrong, and you have to clip all your models as far as I know

there is a way to let the models be clipped automatically, and i think, this ( http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3733&highlight=models+clip+spawnflags ) could help you.
the option to set the value “spawnflags” to “2” makes the compiler clip your models automatically.
you can just search with these words: “models clip spawnflags” and read some of the posts…

Yes, it “works” but I would highly recommend NOT to use it.

The catch is that it creates unpredictable clipping since it’s results are pretty unclean. Even worse, it might detoriate the performance of your map seeing how it creates more collision faces for the game to process. So in any case, try to clip manually. Compared to building the rest of your map, creating a clip brush for a model shouldn’t hurt, and if your model is out of reach for the players, it doesn’t even need clipping.
