Soldier gibbing

(Ashog) #1

I notice quite often that gibbing incapped soldiers sometimes requires 2 knife stabs, sometimes 1 stab (like other classes). This seems to be random to me, although it’s more often 2 stabs. The thing is, since for other classes it takes 1 stab to gib, it is sometimes hard to recall that exclusively for a soldier one needs 2 stabs. This has actually costed biAtches an early second objective on Camden during the last showmatch, when as the last remaining man in defense I killed and then stabbed an incapped soldier 1 time expecting him to be gibbed and didn’t notice that he wasn’t because of the unclear visual distinction between incapped/gibbed players. What a mistake! He was still incapped and the next medic revived him, killed me and the objective was planted before the teammates respawned.

I wonder if:

a) this is a feature and follows from the higher health of soldiers
b) a bug related to the backpack problem (which still exists)
c) other bug

Actually is there a difference in damage to different bodyparts of incapped players? So gibbing by stabbing a head is more effective than legs?

The differentiation visuals for gibbed/incapped players have to be improved a lot, imho. Making a model grey from brown when gibbed is not always noticeable (also depends on personal settings/hardware). I hope this will be worked on.

If this is true it has to be a bug, damage to gib should be the same for all classes, however I’ve never experienced this myself.

Floors/walls have hitsounds for knife (another bug), could it be that you missed the stab and hit the floor instead?

as it was in the showmatch, we will see as soon VoDs are ready.

I’ve never noticed it, a single stab on a corpse always does the trick for me.

Are you sure you didn’t miss the first one (with the new knife animation from last patch)?
Might be that the body wasn’t actually where it was on your screen, on a few occasions when incap I’ve seen medics insisting on trying to defib me 0,5/1m away from where I actually was (on my screen from my pov). Would be nice to know if anyone else has encountered it.

For the vod, let’s hope Seanza was focusing that particular action spot or you in 1st pov.

Well, that’s at least how I remember that moment. This also happened to me before several times, always with soldiers, since many patches, perhaps even since the start. I personally blame-suspect backpack!
