So uh..SD. About that ATI patch...

(ATHFD2P) #1

I know ATI has released hot fixes that is supposed to “fix” some issues. BUT I know this isn’t 100% or even 70% or even 35% ATI’s issue. This is purely poor programming, poor optimization, and failure to test this game fully. Consoles are having similar issues as well. From what I understand quake wars had these similar issues as well. Did you not learn from that past game? I really regret pre-ordering this game. I have been following it for a very long time just like others have been and I can say I am 95% disappointed. These issues need to be addressed and fixed. When I say “FIXED” I don’t mean having the ATI people disable visual features and lower graphic settings to make it playable.

Thanks.

So just to clarify: Is the xbox running an ATI card aswell and that’s why the graphics have been sluggish?

(Lozmuir) #3

It runs an Ati card yes.

Edit: ATI Xenos to be exact.

(legend123) #4

I hope you realized they did improve the ATI problems for a lot of people right?
I was getting 21fps with my 5770 and now get 50fps (seems decent enough).

I just wanted to point out if you are using crossfire for vids cards disable it.

must be frustrating but that’s the situation i had with many games using an ati card previously. it is common in many forums to find that ati cards are poor performers with opengl.

quite some nerve to call out sd for poor programming but ignore the numbers of ati owners that complain of poor drivers that break games. why does brink work fine with my nvidia card? accept the fact that ati cards just might prone to the same “poor programming” you think brink is. after all, it was a series of certain ati cards that suffered most (flawed design perhaps?)

of course who really knows but that is how i would engage your argument on the level it was presented. wait an update cycle. the new nvidia beta drivers fixed my texture gridding and ati i am sure will follow up with legitimate fixes.

Nvidia users are having similar issues as well. This is the only game I have ever had issues with my ATI HD 5770. Yes I have crossfire enabled but I tried it without but it didn’t make a difference. And calling out SD for bad programming and optimization I am sure is reasonable. Both consoles are suffering from the same visual stutters. I have 2 friends with Nvidia 9800s that have no issues. I have another one with a 260 that is running into the same issues I have with my hd 5770. Another person has a 6850 and runs the game ok with EVERYTHING turned off including shadows. This is a bad console port 100% Borderlands was a bad port but all you had to do was edit the config then boom it works great.

(sereNADE) #7

sorry to hear that man. here’s to a worthwhile fixing of our issues. patience is the key. gaming business is a funny thing to follow.

(ATHFD2P) #8

I suppose. I will just let this game collect dust up until they actually fix it. Kinda sucks following a game for a year then pre-order it just so you realize you cant even play it.

(zenstar) #9

Side note: This is not ALL ATIs. My friend has an ATI and it runs perfectly.
Other side note: I don’t trust ATI. I have seen at least 3 forums now where people are complaining that their ATI XXXYYY is causing all sorts of issues and yet all the Nvidia guys are happily playing. They make good hardware but ATI need to fire all their driver guys.

(zenstar) #10

I’m running an Nvidia 9800 GT and have had no issues other than the sound bug in Refuel.
I’ve seen very few Nvidia guys with issues. Is your buddy with the 260 using the latest drivers? Sometimes an update does wonders.

(Braqoon) #11

In Gamespot UK podcast SD mentioned about they having issues with some ATI cards.

http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/features/ukpodcast/index.php?id=2174

why no issues on xbox ?
I would make sure that a major console where my game will be released has no graphical issues.

So this is one ATI model on console vs. hundreds of models on PC.

For me ATI always had problems on Linux with drivers. Nvidia was a pinnacle of stability in comparison with drivers.

(goat72) #12

My 260’s work fine. Sounds like a driver issue or just a crap computer

(Lozmuir) #13

My OC’d 5850 gets a max 30 fps.

(The_Smurph) #14

Do us a favor and STFU, know help at all.

:stroggtapir:

(ATHFD2P) #15

BFBC2 is a perfect example of bad support for nvidia. It just depends what the developers decide to optimize their game on whatever platform.

(sh4d3Z) #16

I haven’t had many issues with the performance on my crossfire setup. Maxed out - except I’m running medium shadows - running 1680 x 1050 I get an average of 50 FPS. It dips into the 30s at times, but only in busy situations (10+ people in the hangar in Refuel for instance) and it only lasts a few seconds. This is with the new hot fix. I only gained about 5 FPS improvement. Perfectly playable though. I’m running two Sapphire HD 6850s.

(fearlessfox) #17

I can confirm that the framrate on ps3 is erratic at times, and the engine feels very sluggish.

It’s playable, but just.

(Al_Kamone) #18

the new catalyst 11.5b just came out today. supposedly it has further improvements in performance and proper crossfire support.

(sh4d3Z) #19

Thanks for that, checking it out now.

Roflol, ya must have some horse blinders on!

http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?p=321584#post321584

Hmmm 25 pages of Nvidia issues! The game has issues for both Companies so Nvidia guys, get off your high horse and take off the blinders the horses are suppose to wear.
