So...the map count. Can we expect at least 10 maps at the launch?

We have five maps available and I hear there are other two in the workings. Now, not to complain, but I wish we could hit at least 10 maps at the launch.

3 maps* in development. And what do you mean at launch, Dirty Bomb just got outta open beta.

(Amerika) #3

Dirty Bomb is still in Open Beta. It’s a soft launch but not the fully featured and fleshed out launch.

They are working on maps but the work seems to be going pretty slow. And it doesn’t really help that they want to add Execution mode which is going to require it’s own map and they won’t be able to create a Map SDK any time soon if ever.

Some more maps, maybe a few new weapons, polished matchmaking and I think this game is ready for shipping. And some focus on bug-fixing.

I’m not trying to be a dick…but, this game has been in Beta for what? a year or so?

And still just these maps?

Continuous closed beta started in March/April. Open beta released beginning of June.

A lot of free to play games stay in beta for a long time. For example, Warframe, almost 3 years now.

Great games are in development for many years. Only 1k-employee-devteams can fart out CoD-clones or AC-clones without souls every year.

Proper betas should be that long. A lot of mainstream game titles these days have “open betas” lasting few weeks maximum. It’s more a demo with no chance to address any discovered problems.

I really dislike how they are focusing on trying to put in Execution and needing to put the mapmakers to work on Execution maps rather than fill out the main game. Execution mode simply feels tacked on in an effort to appeal to the CoD S&D and CS:GO crowds but it doesn’t fit dirty bomb at all. CTF would have been the most logical mode to add on first simply because it’s well loved and you can easily convert Stopwatch maps to CTF and vice versa.

In other words I simply think they should focus on the main game rather than throw efforts towards a mode that doesn’t fit the game at all and is an obvious compromise.

I have to admit it’s rather worrying. I doubt the developers have much resources to spare. It seems…unwise to spend time developing maps which won’t work well in the main modes.

While it can hardly be called a beta there is a reason to do this though. Thinking back to the BF3 open beta which lasted almost no time at all, they solved many hardware/software related user end bugs that would otherwise not have been solved on release.

Annd released a game which in no way was a proper Battlefield plagued with bugs, poor maps and lack of balance. BF4 was the same story. It took them more than a year to patch it to a decent standard. The net code still needs work. I would say that the first year after the release BF4 is about to be ready NOW for the actual release. Still this isn’t a place to discuss this.

(Ghosthree3) #14

Of course. I am by no means saying that it helped the game significantly, but it still served a purpose and did improve the game. It just didn’t really do anything for balance or maps. It was far too late at that point to consider redoing all the maps though - and lets be honest, at least half are tragedies of map design.
