So much rage, I am expecting to get banned...

Ha-ha-haipt!

But seriously, can agree only on one thing here - the horrendous map and objective design. The current maps are seriously substandard of SD quality from the past games. They should really pick the few old times mappers from other projects and give them a serious working time chunk to redo/make new ones, preferably 1-2 mappers per map, because it seems now there’s like the whole team is involved in each map. Like someone mentioned in a stream - when too many cooks…

Otherwise, as someone suggested, take a break from the game, man. I also got emotional and frustrated at some point of alpha, until I realized that SD didn’t really need feedback from us anymore at that time (or maybe no more, who knows?). The break has been had and now I am relatively indifferent to anything SD attempts to test and change, unless of course it concerns grenades.

a lot of good points here!

W:ET Promod is still an epic game for competitive. I dont think we will get some equal in DB. All concerns allready raised 1000 times in this forum, but nothing really happen. It feels like traped in an infinite loop…

It isn’t a negated point. There is a very real and measurable difference in loadouts. Focus, drilled, quick draw all make a noticeable difference in firefights and the closer in skill the players, the more difference it makes. Those are just the universal ones… Which means there is a imbalance and for the record it’s the functionality of them that make them imbalanced not the values.

It’s a decent idea but it’s not practical and I’m not sure why designers thought it would be worth the effort to attempt to balance a whole new system. As I said the game would be better off without it. If they had to do an augment system they should have just focused on augments for merc specific abilities. At least that way the mercs would feel a little more different.

focus is pretty useless, ironsighting not worth it.

<3 Wolf ET!

Miss you ET. Need ET2 with improved graphics, like CS->CSGO.
Also need many great maps to choose from.
In DB we have like 5 maps, thats like eating uncooked rice after haveing access to 5-star hotel buffé dinner / favorite food.

I would be happy with just playing ET with people instead of bots.

Never played it really, but you need to wonder, why SD hates so much to stick to the exciting mixture they were able to make, and instead try to do something better while failing over and over again for 10 years.

My theory is
A) W:ET is a standalone mod of RTCW so SD might feel its not their own thing. That SD wants to try their wings so to speak, and do/test whatever they want that is truly their own thing. Which is wierd since ETQW was basicly “Battlefield with TF & ET mecanics with quake skins”. And DB is TF+Brink+CS+Moba? So there must be misscommunication internally I guess on what SD shall or shall not do.
B) W:ET community evolved W:ET into something better than the original released W:ET
C) From the looks of it after W:ET was done SD snoozed / didnt catch / learn how W:ET was played / evovled. This was quite clear to me at least when SD showed ETQW, where they cut off about 4 years of established “truths” that the community had worked in, on what works and what is wanted. It was bizarre, atleast to me. It was basicly “fkc W:ET fans we gonna get rich off BF fans now”. Then COD4 came and people forgot about ETQW and BF.
When I see the “Dirty Bomb: Know Your Heritage” video, I see it as not honest or a farce / something like that, but thats just me.
But enough drama. Nobody is perfect, and it IS their choice on what to do.

Whats your ideas?

Honestly? I think they managed by accident to get a nice base of game play. As long as it´s customizable, it could be evolved (and has been in the past by the community, or own patches, etc…) to a truly great game. However, they never realized what actually made there games as good as they were. Sadly they don´t want to listen and try to understand the reasons for why so many people loved the game(s, since I include ET:QW here) and mostly ignore what we have to say. At the same time every feedback that is not fitting the concept of those old “succesfull” SD games gets a lot of hate from the community. For Everyone who follows SD it is obvious that if they deviate too much from what they already can and know how to do it´s not going to work out.

So the rule of thumb is: the further away a game is from what they did in ET, the more it sucks (ETQW was good, Brink sucked as an example). Since we are quiet far away from that now, and any customization seems missing it´s going to be a disaster. But that´s just my prediction

W:ET mechanic looks simple but has really deepness if you play longer

DB mechanic looks very extensive but you get bored quick

I guess its really hard for SD to get always measured by W:ET. But if they would take a really close look into W:ET and what the community made with it (mods, maps). To find out whats the player really keeps playing and get caught them for long term. Im pretty sure they would have a great success again.

(stealth6) #52

At this point I really wonder if SD is sick of hearing about W:ET this ET:QW that, but they brought it on themselves by advertising the game as a spiritual successor etc…

To the people that seem to believe competitive won’t have augments and is going to be better can you back that up with sources or is it all assumptions?

(ailmanki) #53

To bad I can’t find it now… there was a interview with one of the devs from W:ET around year 2003.surprising what there goal was and how they saw et back then. As such spiritual successor is not wrong. Will try to find the interview…

(onYn) #54

Pretty sure they scan the post for those and don´t even read it if they find something :D. But since we are talking about an objective based FPS this comparison would have been made regardless of what SD said earlier.

This is what I loved about ET and RtCW’s movement, doc runner was an unofficial class, lots of practice went into traversing the maps as fast and fluid as possible. Also not that you never ran towards the enemy spawn to capture a doc, something the map design in DB needs to take into account and stop having the attackers doing.

(LiNkzr) #59

I felt like when I was testing out the game in nexon launcher maybe in 2014? It had more content, maps and 7, better UI, It just feels like they just took them away and then just slowly give them back at us. Seems weird.

I kind of expected this to happen. to be honest after reading forums a ton I feel like there are really good suggestions and SD has seemed to acknowledge them but nothing has been done, and then I see these idiotic posts and after them most insignificant patches, which usually take a 2 step forward and then one step back.

I don’t know if it just me being disappointed like pixel that this game could have been something really nice but progress is happening way too slow and at wrong at places. nothing is done with competitive servers / lobbies / balance in 5v5 and so on and so forth
