So, let's talk Grandeur and Dreiss

So a while back there was a discussion started by @rancid regarding the Dreiss and whether or not it should be worked on.

And he did raise quite a few good points regarding how practical the weapon is in actual use. So with that in mind I wanted to raise a few more points, how exactly should these two weapons be changed?

For example, should they both have sights? Like, ACTUAL proper sights? Given their role and how they function, would it not make sense for these weapons to have good scopes for ranged combat ads?

What about movement speed while ads? Should that perhaps be changed to give these guns a specific advantage in that territory?

Damage, obviously the Dreiss should do less damage and have a higher RoF, and the Grandeur should do more damage and have a slower RoF. But by how much?

Bloom, spread, and stability or bloom reset, how should these mechanics be changed?

I’m going to link a few videos of Battle Rifles in other games, as well as the Ambassador from TF2, just to give you guys an idea of how these guns are used and how the Ambassador works.

Now, the reason this is relevant is because I think it clearly demonstrates how these guns should work.

  • They should be the hybrid of a Sniper Rifle and an Assault Rifle, so low RoF, semi automatic, and high damage on headshot.
  • Sights are another big thing, I feel like that aspect is a large part of why these guns don’t feel right.
  • Hipfire should be pinpoint accurate on that first shot, regardless of distance, the bloom of each gun however should be wide to compensate, so with the Grandeur for example, you can fire that gun 3 times before the spread becomes too wide to reliably hit headshots. The Dreiss should be less so, maybe like 6-9, so it’s a better close range weapon.
  • Aiming down sights should have zero bloom, the slow RoF is what really makes a difference here since there is a such a large interval in which people could dodge and cause you to miss. But again, they need good sights.
  • With all that said, I feel like the following buffs could be added

Buffs

  • Both Guns now have sights, Dreiss has more of an EO Tech Sight, and the Grandeur has more of ACOG or a sight similar to the AUG in Global Offensive, which takes up more of your peripheral vision and gives more zoom.
  • The Grandeur’s Starting spread has been buffed, as well as the max spread, but the bloom has been changed, after the 3 rd shot, only bodyshots are consistently accurate in close range fights.
  • Dreiss receives similar treatment, with the difference being it takes 7 shots.
  • Both guns have a recoil pattern where the gun goes straight up.
  • The Grandeur now has a 14 clip size.
  • Movement speed while aiming down sights has been increased, to allow you to essentially corner peak or go into a fight more easily with your sights raised. Raise and Drop times, as well as aim from sprinting times have been changed to improve this as well.
  • RoF changes MAY be needed, currently however the TTK for both guns is actually faster than the M4, but this is without accounting for player accuracy. So…yea. You can check the spread sheet out here

i really dont want graundier with acog, yes it would be cool to play with but not to play against, do you imagine pdp that can do no scopes?

and i would make dreiss… automatic, it would be way easier to aim, because now it requires m4 aiming and br timing, but along with making it automatic i would give it small rpm nerf, it would actually be a buff, because you could be accurate with full auto

That really makes no sense, the PDP is op for it’s own reasons but has nothing to do with the scope.

That and there is no reason for it not to have it considering it’s role.

And an automatic dreiss would be op as hell with 27 damage

I’ve always found it irritating how Quick Eye is not available for most mercs with assault and battle rifles. Just put that perk on more cards for Kira, Arty and Redeye and there we go.

Sorry I’m 99% certain I didn’t receive the notification for the tag in this post haha, so I never saw the thread.

Honestly I’m stumped how to put into words what I feel needs to change, so I don’t really know what to suggest. But given the guns range and the fact they’re supposed to be longer ranges rifles it makes no sense to me that they don’t have some form of sight on them.

I personally feel they should both have atleast a red dot sight, or something similar to the Starks scope. Especially since the iron sights are misaligned - the Grandeur in particular is terrible in this regard. The Grandeur is the sole reason I installed mumble crosshairs in the first place haha.

But yeah at the end of the day they are supposed to be both longer range rifles, so iron sights only for these guns make no sense to me.

Why they don’t just install custom scopes to the game confuses me. It’s hardly an advantage if everyone has access to them, but oh well.

Ill take anything to replace the GSR sites. Its like someone slapped a brick on the top of my rifle and said “aim with that!”

The DR feels so weird to me. Its like an in between from the worst qualities of both weapon types.
