so- just curious- why is Nader a lesbian?

(Diosito) #21

She is lesbian because I disappointed her. Since that day (long before the Alpha) I changed my sexual orientation to asexual :stuck_out_tongue:

Why is she a lesbian? I don’t know. Why does splash damage have to inform us what sexual orientation the mercs have in a video game, I don’t know either.

(Szakalot) #23

@capriciousParsely

you are right, they should have written ‘her spouse’ to avoid the PC and the ANTI-PC crowds

(LifeupOmega) #24

Why not? It doesn’t affect anything, it just adds a bit to her character. There will always be people who complain.

I’m confused, how exactly is this a matter of political correctness?

The way I see it is this: Same sex marriage is still fairly new, and considered somewhat quirky in our times (the reason it actually stands out). But it is rapidly becoming normal already, and is likely to be entirely normal in the near future. So when the writers casually throw it in like they did, it kind of alludes to that reality and it makes sense in the universe of the world (especially with it taking part in Europe, and her being German).

All of the character bios are somewhat quirky but entirely irrelevant pieces of trivia. In that sense it fits right in, and I don’t know what more reason anybody could be looking for. :slight_smile:

(Szakalot) #26

@Zenity I was sarcastic

You will always find people complaining, I’d imagine if it wasn’t the sexual orientation then her previous profession as a business lawyer (why you pick on lawyers, grumble grumble grumble!)

(GregHouseMD) #27

Probably to spark discussions like this.

I mean, Arty’s bio hints he might be a proper family man. Why is that mentioned? Well, I think his entire character is a nod to Jet Li’s character in the Expendables, but … why? Why is it important? WHY!? Someone tell me! I can’t live with this uncertainty!

I’m waiting for a db merc that’s gay, as long as it’s not rhino i’d probably hit that :smiley:

(Darkcola) #30

Wow this developed in by far in one of the dumbest threads i have ever read.
Her bio mentiones her wife one time as part of the backstory. The rest is logic + interpretation. The char has it’s own characteristics (who would have fkn guessed?) and you should expect the contents of a Bio to contain information about the char (duh).

It’s the sole fact that you guys are getting your mouths fuzzy of talking that it’s completly right of Splash Damage to contain this information, since you are making a big deal out of it (which is shouldn’t if you were judging people normally).

What if it said her husband? Would you give a damn about her sexuality being mentioned? Because it would. The exact same way as they ->indirectly<- mention that she is lesbian / bisexual. If that is still an actual matter to you , you should think about it if you are actually neutral and equal to such things. And if you are not neutral, and think that it should be altered, just get out.

(Meat) #32

This thread needs to just go away. Big deal her sexual preference.

The bigger issue is that she was a corporate lawyer, that’s way more damning to her reputation!

This is not a dumb thread. The only people who so far have been caustic are people like you who are making a JUDGEMENT of others and their reasoning or questioning. If you bother to read back, my premise for asking was far removed from the fact that Nader has a wife- it was the context of why do it in a video game.

Please, don’t read the thread. It is causing you psychological distress.

lol as I said before about the sociology teacher: labels- some supersede others dramatically.

(Nail) #35

the fact it bothers you shows most of the problem here, lesbians exist, why not have one in a video game, aliens don’t exist (officially :wink: ) but no one questions that choice.

lol dont think for me. I thought it was an interesting concept and wanted to discuss it. I am not you, or your perception of me- dont be butthurt from your other post in the warchest forums. What if I said I was a Mormon :stuck_out_tongue: lol just stick to the topic, no personal nonsense.

(KayDubz) #37

I think its pretty typical that they made the LGBT character a woman. Ive noticed thats always the “safe” route a lot of companies go when stepping out into the gay arena. They should def introduce a gay male character in though if they really want to be diverse.
