So im getting a new system soon..

I heard the “Super” Setting in Dirty Bomb is a performance hog… So im getting a new system

I think i can get 20 fps with this config… Hit me up with anything making it better!

You can shave a few dollars off by cutting back on the graphics cards, Dirty Bomb isn’t programmed to use a “graphics card”, other developers do that all the time, and SD wanted to do something exciting and innovative.

The game only uses the CPU to render each frame in astonishing detail, so you’re better off buying a server blade with multiple CPUs, or a bitcoin miner.

EDIT: Also, fan cooling won’t cut it. Consider stocking up on liquid nitrogen instead.

Li… Liquid nitro?? Thats for overclockers only, dude… It RUINS the parts… it should never EVER be used in a home system, unless you can pay huge bucks for the nitro and replacing the parts every so often. And Dirty Bomb uses plenty of GPU power… I was running a 4870 and got 50 fps on minimum settings, upgraded to a 6870 and got 80 fps on max settings… So theres that. I do beleive this game is definately more cpu-intense… The other thing: Do you know specificly what engine this game is built on? The system i just showed is of course a joke but i want to know the optimal system for this game.

I was just about to say, I’m joking around as much as you are!

It’s based on the Unreal 3 engine. Doesn’t play friendly with AMD cards, that’s why I made the CPU joke (Graphics card nearly idle, CPU maxed out).

Anything nVidia with a decent CPU will work nicely, doesn’t need to be top of the line. More emphasis on CPU than GPU, though futureproofing your system is never a bad idea.

If i could cool my system with liquid nitro i would… I thought you were messing around, stuff like sarcasm just doesnt translate well in text, unfortunately. right now im running a msi twin frozr 2 hd 6870 and a phenom 2 x4 955 black edition, and the game runs flawlessly. Earlier the cooler for the cpu was caked with dust and i could barely run the game but i cleaned it now i can run anything like butter.

I’m running and AMD Radeon R9 290 Tri-X and Quad i5-4960 @ 3,5 Ghz, but my CPU gets maxed out while my graphics card hardly gets any load.

The game runs okay-ish, no matter what quality settings I pick. Reported FPS is good, but I definitely wouldn’t call my actual perceived FPS any good. I can watch youtube videos of people that look a lot smoother than the 144 FPS ‘stable’ I have in-game.

It doesn’t hang or skip frames I don’t think, but movement doesn’t “ease” on my screen like BF4 or TF2 does.

Worse yet, I very often see enemy mercs teleport ever so slightly enough to make it hard to follow with my crosshair, it’s one reason why I can never be as good in this game as I’d like.

@Matuno no idea where you got the idea from that this game doesn’t run well when you have an amd graphics card, I run an i5-4460 and an amd r9 280 and I get more than enough fps.

(Matuno) #8

I get that idea by playing and comparing with other games I play, and by the fact that my CPU is actually genuinely maxed out while my graphics card doesn’t get much load at all, while the opposite is true in other games I play.

Reported ingame FPS is fine, but doesn’t seem fine when looking at YouTube footage of streamers that somehow manage to record AND play, something my PC wouldn’t even manage despite the specs.

EDIT: Trying to make a recording to show you what I mean but Plays.TV is acting up worse than a 12yr old Twitch streamer talking to his mom.
EDIT2: Uploading now

(neverplayseriou) #9

@Matuno because that’s how db works, it’s heavy on the cpu and barely affects your gpu, so even if you have an nvidia card your cpu will do all the work.

Will take a while for HD to become available, but you’ll see when I turn around, you only catch one or two glimpses of what’s in view. That shouldn’t happen on 120+ FPS.

Stock cooler? Make sure theres no dust. Even if you use AIO or an aftermarket air cooler make sure your heatsink/radiator is dust free. I got 50 fps minimum settings on my phenom 2 x4 955 (which, im sure is way less capable than your i5) And i get 80+ fps, never drops below that… Even on Max settings, and the problem you have doesnt occur to me. Also whats the refresh rate of your monitor? I am running only 60hz 1080p… Its kind of a cheapo monitor, but it does the job. But also my cpu is never maxed in this gamer. 70-80% at most, even if i go to task manager and make the priority higher than normal.

No its not the unreal engine 3, that runs fine on both cards, its that dirty bomb is sponsored by nvida, in a livestream they even said it. They wont put up much support for AMD cards
