So I can disarm mines as engineer...

(PillowTalk) #1

But not when I’M standing on one?

What’s up with that?

Sticky bombs, too. These I’m not too sure about the mechanics of removal. It makes sense from a gameplay point of view that a stuck player can’t remove it himself (let’s just say it always sticks to your back, even if it was thrown at your face). But who can remove them? Engineers, or every class? Not that it matters… I stand in front of a friendly engineer while stuck all the time and since he won’t take it off, we both get killed. Oh well.

I didnt try the selfdisarm but any player can remove the sticky. For success he should have a clue about this

Strafing left and right directly in front of someone who’s sniping, using VOIP to say, “Get it off! Get it off! Get it O-BOOM” doesn’t help sometimes. I know the icon isn’t hard to miss; I remove the stickies from people I can reach all the time (though there are some times when a dude won’t stop running around and I can’t get it off in time; I think they just don’t realize they can be removed) so I don’t know what the deal is with people who don’t want to be team players and get the points.

The problem (with a lot of other topics in this forum) is knowledge of certain gameplay mechanics. You read this forum, you read about the game, how this and that works. Many others dont, they play other games, have a wife or other stuff they rather do then diggin in the game. Theres thousands of reasons not to know certain info. One of them also that its a new game. A little more tolerance to newbs will give us a better world  and maybe if you tell him or her friendly what he or she could have done to save you, he or she will know next time… and maybe still fail because its the first time he or she notices. But maybe the next time…

Change the world by spreading the knowledge!

ManGiraffeDog, a horrible marauding godless killing machine, is coming to destroy humanity. I’ve come to warn you to RUN AWAY and save yourselves. Here’s what it looks like so you can be prepared:

I’m super serial.

(wolfnemesis75) #6

Yeah. People online will tell you how to remove it I had to ask too.

(Deadwalking) #7

A different indication of it needing to be removed would help a lot with the stickies. I have a hard time determining if it is a sticky or a guy that needs a buff.

And I never even considered trying to defuse a landmine I was standing on as an engineer. Would be kinda nice to be able to do, but not game breaking for me that I cant.

The funniest thing about those mines is, that I can only remember hearing a clicking. Guess its because i run too fast as light.

You actually can disarm the mines as engineer. Did this a few times myself, when someone stupidly planted them right in front of a command post and I heard the ticking while capturing. I just switched, from whatever class I was using, to engineer, disarmed the thing and switched back to medic, usually. takes less than 10 seconds.

Hint: plant them a few meters away from the cp, so people run over them while trying to get there, not right in front of them.

Yeah, I wish the game was a little bit more clear on sticky bombs. Oh well, I plan to educate everyone who doesnt remove them from me by standing in front of them until they explode. They will learn it sooner or later.

(Bakercompany) #11

You can disarm them while standing on them, i’ve done it before.

(Butcher Rabbit) #12

Sooo, how do you remove a sticky bomb? I’m never next to anyone who gets stickied, and I seem to only get stickied when I’m out on my lonesome with my Operative character, doing operative things. Like having a sticky war with the other teams operative.

(KAS--Will) #13

IDK what you did, but YES you can disarm mines, as an engineer standing on them… I’ve done it before.

However you cannot remove a Sticky Bomb once it’s been attached. Either get a teammate to take it off you, or just suicide run it… which I have yet to have success with.

(Deadwalking) #14

With the stickies it can be fairly comical running around hoping for someone to remove it, but I tend to do what KAS-Will said and suicide run for the other team hoping to at least get a knockdown or kill. I am not sure how the Friendly Fire works with them though. if it is stuck to an enemy and that enemy is able to run up to you on a FF off server, do you take damage? Things are usually going on pretty fast that I havnt ever considered if I was on a FF on or off server when getting a kill with it stuck to me.

(KAS--Will) #15

I’m pretty sure FF or not, it will count as you attack them… if the game is programmed right (which it is).

However, one reason why it’s stupid to just run at them, is if they shoot the sticky bomb, it sets it off quicker, that’s why I run and gun… which ALWAYS FAILS! :frowning:
