So....help me out here, regarding credits, and how if what we earn is enough for now.

So, out of curiosity, about how many credits do you guys think people earn in a single hour? Why does this matter? Because I am trying to calculate what seems like fair amount.

I am going to base it on this sort of math

Challenges per day: 12
Credits per challenge: 500-1000

Why 12? Because even though challenges reset every 3 hours, the thing is, people can’t play all day. A lot of people have other responsibilities like work, college, etc. So if you factor in an average day of work, 4-10 hours, sleep, 6-8 hours also, and time it takes to get around, eat dinner, etc, another 2-3 hours. So on average, people have about 3-12 hours to play each day, in total, about 21- 84 hours a week.

So let’s assume people play at least once a day, and we’ll say 3 hours minimum just to be safe. That’s about 1500-3000 a day, 10500-21000 a week. The only x factor here is the amount of credits earned per hour on average from normal play.

And yes, this makes a lot of assumptions, but we have to assume that if someone has a PC capable of running this game, we can also assume they are working or going to college, so yea, a huge chunk of their time isn’t going to be spent playing. 21 hours a week is generous to say the least.

So if we factor all this in we can determine if the current model is reasonable or not.

It all depends on the player and their goals and their ability. If I am wanting to earn the max credits I start playing about 60-80 minutes before the missions reset. I typically play Objective only when going for credits due to xp gain bug + faster. I then get all those missions done…usually within 45-60 minutes unless it’s the 1000xp Waterboy mission but that can be done by 80 minutes even. Mission reset and I do it all over again and this time I throw in at least one Stopwatch match for the daily bonus if I haven’t already played one (and you can get that done super quick most of the time by joining an already in progress game).

So, you can get between 1500-3000 credits for the missions. We’ll say 2000 on average. So, for a potential maximum of 160 minutes (2.6 hours) I’ll get 4000 credits from missions, 1500 from daily bonuses and I’ll most likely get another 2000 in credits (this could be more or less depending on the missions). Plus cases. That works out to 7500 credits but the average amount of credits will most likely take less than 2.6 hours (probably more like 2).

So, in about 2 hours worth of play I can have 7500 credits which would mean that I could get a new merc every 6.6 days or the exact bronze loadout card I want every 2.2 days.

Granted, you have to be fairly competent at the game to pull these numbers so my scenario doesn’t apply to brand new players. But it’s not too hard once you know what to go for and when to start. I am sitting on a lot of credits and it’s because I do this somewhat often and I don’t buy cases or trade-up for cosmetics often.

Based on an 18 hour in game sample size, I earned about 1,000-1,100 credits per hour, excluding missions. Hope that helps your math if you decide to use it. Judging on base fee only, if there was ZERO time between matches, it would be 720 without any bonuses at all. Generally a skill bonus is applied to any payout. Again, that was in game time only. Excludes all time spent at the lobby, loading and warmup times.

Don’t forget to include the daily 500 credit bonuses.

Also, is this only using Business days as an example? Like if a player doesn’t have additional playtime on days off/weekends?

i tend to play a couple of one hour stretches , clearing 2 lots of quests of which i usualy do 2 and drop 1

i expect to get 1k for game fee (4-5 games)
1.5k for missions
1.5k for first of the days

basic expected 6.5k for 2 hours.

i think the model is very fair myself, i really hate that misnomer free to play. its an advertising lie not a fair description of the business model.
i bought a starter pack and have been playing for a couple of weeks for got all the mercs i want, decent if not perfect loadouts, and near 50k saved up ready for the next merc i want.

So it seems like a new merc once a week, the real question here is though is it realistic.

I would say most people can play at least 1-3 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The thing is you gotta factor in sleep, work, college, etc

An average fulltime job is about 40 hours a week, potentially an extra 3 hours per day as well for getting up, getting ready for work, lunch, driving there, etc. Then there’s sleep, which is like, 7 hours a day. So assuming all that, that means people should have about 64 hours a week to play and earn credits…but even that seems unrealistic.

But for the sake of argument, let’s factor all this in, say you play 3 hours a day, 1500 for first win and first match of the day, 1500 for challenges that day, and 3000 for those 3 hours you play. That’s 6000 a day, 42000 a week.

The most I play per week is about 20 hours, because I have other shit going on. So I am basing it on that. I just don’t think you can say “well you can earn it all free!”, because in reality, even playing for 20 hours each week is a lot. That’s about 2-3 hours a day, assuming you have the time for that even.

Also, fun fact, the average minimum wage in the UK, converted to US dollars is about 9.62…so even if you make minimum wage at Kroger or something, you should be able to buy the new merc for the week when it comes out.

So with all this factored in…it seems like the model they have is pretty fair, but I think sales or specials might be a good thing to consider…

Like for mercs in the free rotation for example, why not have sales on them? 20% of the credit price and cash price for the merc and their cards?

They have had discounts on the ultimate starter pack during the Steam Summer Sale and said they will be working more on that in the future. When the game stabilizes with a number of mercs to choose from I’m certain they will start offering price reductions in both real money and credits at some point. It makes sense because it keeps people playing and generates excitement and can encourage new players to join up…which is what keeps a game (F2P or not) alive.

Agreed, once all the mercs are back I think they’ll start taking advantage of sales more.

That and crates, and the steam workshop probably. We might see that happen at some point too.

Dunno how much per hour, but I get around 20-30k every 24. Depends on if I play extra.

IMO we get plenty.

The credit income feels fine to me too. I remember I were able to earn more than 7k credits in one day. And I could probably earn more.

(Gi.Am) #10

income is fine imo. I’m an average player and I would say I average around 4-5 missions per day. Before the income increases I managed to afford a 50k merc roughly every 3 weeks.
And now it is definitve no problem for an average player to get the 50k in two weeks (with some extra propably) thats pretty much all there is to it.

That lets you buy a Merc instantly when he comes out, and propably even afford one bronze loadout card. if you don’t like the merc you can patt your roster with an older Merc instead and still be able to instabuy the next release (or the last release after a testdrive in the free week).

ONly thing is when all the old Mercs are released and they slowdown with Merc releases they have to come up with stuff we can waste money on instead.

Hopefully by then we will get actual cosmetics that aren’t RNG that keeps people like myself from putting any money towards them. The current RNG model with the stupid high price tag is definitely not for me.
