After running
seta r_useThreadedRenderer 2
in the console, and the latest patch, everything has been running great for me.
AMD Phenom 9500 X4 2.2GHz
4 GB DDR2 Ram 800 Mhz
NVIDIA GTX 480
I like the game play. I like the guns (and the fact that none of them is an ideal gun… You really have to choose which disadvantage you have to work with. In other words, they’re not all the same, and there’s no uber-gun.
It seems to me like it’ll be a little while before the game settles down into a state where people more or less know what’s going on. The objective wheel helps – but there’s still time when I’m wondering what the hell I’m supposed to be doing, or how the hell I’m supposed to get from A to B. But that’s fine! In fact it has to be that way for a bit if the game is to have any depth!
I think that the fighting really has potential to be quite strategic, but that that hasn’t really happened yet (at least in Europe) as people are still figuring out what the hell is going on…the levels etc. Ultimately it’s too soon to say either way – that the gameplay has a lot of depth or not…but given the ET / ETQW track record, I’ve got some faith that SD put a lot of teamwork and strategy into the game play.
A couple of requests / questions.
QUICKSAYS
- I really miss the quick chat keys. It’s so nice to be able quicksay “thanks”! Or to shout out “medic” or “I need ammo” a couple of times when there’s one standing next to you but was too distracted to hear the first call out. I hope you guys consider reintroducing quicksays!
WHO WINS BUG?
2. This may be related to what I was saying above about still learning the game…but sometimes it really seems to get it wrong in terms of who won the match! I’m playing on a team defending the reactor… we’re doing really well as a team defending it… no one is getting in… and all of a sudden the reactor has blown! Maybe I missed something – but I certainly wasn’t the only one on the server that was confused, saying things like "Eh?! We lost that? We had great D! " etc.
INGAME VOIP
3. So far, there’s been very little ingame VOIP. I made a bunch of friends on the OCB server because there was such good in game VOIP there. A great vibe of people joking around, talking s*** in a friendly banterish way, etc. Its less inclusive when the VOIP is pushed out of the game onto e.g. teamspeak… I hope that you at SD do what you can to make VOIP work in game. Allow public / team / and fireteam VOIP to be turned on etc. I know fireteam voip is on, but I haven’t seen any of the other two (public and team).
ADJUSTMENTS BETWEEN MAPS
4. I’d like to be able to adjust my character or gun in between games without losing the server I’m connected to. This is not uber-critical…but it would be nice to be able to e.g. change to a red-dot sight inbetween games.
All in all, thank you SD for your efforts! Don’t let the naysayers bring you down. Anyone that’s done any software engineering knows there is always some teething issues. Everything has worked better than I expected on my rig!
Cheers,
Deems
