So far i'm loving it.

Well what the title says, i just love the game but by no means is it the best game of the year but it sure as hell is something different, something i’ve needed for a long time.

1- Customisation is nice, but not as in depth as i would like, limited number of archetypes is a bit of a let down, but the clothing and gear is real nice though

2- Control system feels good and responsive, probably because i have it set to raw input so the mouse responds like im used to in call of duty.

3- The mission are hard as hell and make you think creatively instead of just ploughing into a room like a dumbass.

4- Story is nice and uncomplicated, Splash never said it was a ground breaking story but it is a good back drop to the game instead.

5- S.M.A.R.T system is really cool, can bug out sometimes when transitioning from surface to surface, but all in all a bloody good effort considering its a completely new movement system (Inspired by mirrors edge no doubt).

6- Map design is nice but there are some worrying choke points and the lack off maps on release is a bit of a let down. Hopefully new maps will keep coming and a map making kit will make this game explode.

7- Guns are nice and i have noticed a deffinite difference between each gun, certainly not a black ops fail there, oh look a famas, oh look another famas with a different skin.

8- Gametypes will get boring real quick but hopefully this game will expand and evolve on pc to incorporate some objective based style TDM play. solo challenges are fun but again not many.

9- Graphics, its individual style turns alot of ppl off but for me its a plus, it does’nt look like brown military shooter 9000. having said that it does’nt look too goofy, unless your a light which lol yea does look a bit funny.

10- My main concern is the hipfire accuracy, seems to be a bit to good, but thats probably a personal thing for me, i do however like the aim down sight, when you burst fire it really good, hold that fire button down and it behaves alot like a fully auto would in real llife (i have this on good authority from a yank mate who goes to the firing range alot). what i mean is fireing ADS is accurate but then spreads REALLY fast the longer you hold the fire button down. but its not as accuarate as hipfire which is a concern.

Overall i like this game alot, its not a replacement for my one true love call of duty but its most certainly a game worth playing between cod sessions or when you want something a bit different. i’m thankfull i hav’nt bumped into the performance issues some ppl have and i hope those get fixed so the rest of you can enjoy the game and hopefully build a community that help expand the game to its full potential. don’t be expecting this to replace battlefield or call of duty, but this could create a whole new take on FPS games and we move around in them, deffinetly create a few more of this type of game would be a good thing.

I’m sure there are a few more pro’s and cons but all in all im having fun with it and can see the game going really far when they’ve ironed the kinks out and made a few map/gametype additions. if it gets fixed then who know’s the sequal could be damn near perfect, as we all know the first game of any planned series will never quite live up to expectations but this game has alot of potential.

I just picked up Brink last night, U.S & 360, and I agree with all of the things you said. One thing I have noticed, and it’s not a big deal, is that once the game gets into the final minutes the allied A.I pulls a clutch and owns. That in it’s self isn’t bad but I wish they would play that well the entire match. That being said I don’t think the AI is anywhere as bad as people say and that they’re are just whining.

The gametype traces it’s roots back to RTCW and Enemy Territory. ET is still being played 8 years after release so I doubt it will get boring quickly! As for being a replacement for CoD and BF, it’s not meant to be. If I was being pedantic, I might point out that both those franchises started sometime after RTCW’s 2001 release…

However, really pleased you like the game. Despite all the complaining posts, there are a LOT of us who really like this game but most are busy playing it rather than posting here  I just wish I was one of them, rather than sitting here at work.

When i say a replacement for call of duty or battlefield i mean for me on a personal level, i never liked battlefield and call of duty is getting tiresome now, i still love it to bits but its like the zombies that treyarch ram in your face, its dead, smells a bit and kids like poking it with a stick. let the poor girl rest in piece. i like the gametype but it will get stale quite quickly in this day and age. 2 more distinct gametypes would make this game a winner. 6 more maps would be great and if the bugs got fixed damn i’d be uninstalling cod right now and preaching the word of Brother Chen.

It was the story and setting which intrigued me most about Brink more than any of its gameplay features. While the story was a good idea and I liked ARK itself, it could have been loads better. It’d make for a great read if it was fleshed out with better characters.

(GR0MIT) #6

Could’nt agree with you more, the idea behind the story was great, niether side was good or bad, simply trying to survive and you never felt like a douche for picking one or the other. but for me gameplay and features are a key point of any FPS for, the story is a nice bonus where as the multiplayer is an absolute must for me.

Yeah thanks Gr0mit, I was just about to eat my over-ripe banana when I read that. Think I’ll give it a miss now

Your welcome

That’s on purpose. The AI’s intelligence increases as the match progresses so you initially have a chance to play the hero. IIRC they’ll adjust it in the next patch so the ai will be relatively smart the entire time.

(GR0MIT) #10

I noticed this alot aswell, so i opened my console and noticed a few lines saying something along the lines of inceasing bot difficulty, seemed to increae as the map went on, allthough it could be adaptive in that it gets harder the faster you progress thru the map, not the distance.

(Oschino1907) #11

Totally agree with you and main poster. Beyond confused when it comes to many reviews and straight up bitching and moaning about eveyrthing. I feel liek the game delivered most all of what i expected and seems many who were turned off thought it was going to be something it never cliamed to be. Once you get the mechanics down and fully utilize whats at you finger tips the game becomes amazing!!!

Oh and before this i have played many upon many of shooters and the ones i was hooked to the most were COD4 then BFBC2 (KZ2 for a while), everythign else came and went while i put hours upon hours into those. With the right DLC this game is my planned replacement for the two. I hope this game has me hooked for a good 250-500hours atleast.

(Shotgun Surgeon) #12

Glad you really like it, OP. This game, as the reviews show, is either you really hate it or you really love it. There’s not that many in-betweens. I really love this game and obviously all the people I’ve played with in-game really love it also. If people want to hate the game, I have no problem with it. After all, a majority of people love COD and I really hate it and I have my reasons as I’m sure they have reasons for hating this game.

(GR0MIT) #13

OMG someone gets it, someone actually gets it. ppl just did’nt like the fact they could’nt make it a game for theselves in some lonewolf selfish kill whoring way. or did’nt research the game like i have been for the past 9 months when i pre ordered it. the movement introduction video from the devs had me hooked and thats what i focused on so i was’nt disappointed by it. all the haters obviously focused on the customisation or the vain hope of mulitple gametypes when its was clearly stated there’s only one.

(Dr.Ricktofen) #14

The more you play the more you love BRINK.

Hopefully pc won’t be the only thing getting supported.

Consoles should not get the short end of the stick just because SD is more pc focused. Consoles should get new stuff too, if pc gets free new maps then so should ps3 and 360.

(GR0MIT) #15

I imagine splash will be patching this as best they can on all platforms, but don’t expect it to be right away because rushing it would create more harm than good. stick with it and it can only get better from here.

(Oschino1907) #16

As long as this game gets supported well i will continue to recommend to friends. All that have played so far love it, but mainly because they knew what to expect from me showing them the videos and telling them what to expect. If you give it a chance and embrace the whole concept behind it i find there is very little to bitch and complain about.

Having said that i am beyond happy the game got the reviews it did because the ease of which it seemed to introduce players and allow them to get the whole game down had me worried a bunch of COD douches would flood the community and ruin the team concept of it but THANKFULLY the whole team oriented gamplay along with having to support others and not just go for kills or personal gain turned many of those kind of players away.
Pretty much everyone who bashed, didnt buy or refuse to like this kind of game I SAY GOOD RIDDANCE, we as a BRINK community dont want you here, dont need you here and never have. The game this people attracts are 100% the kind i hope to and love to play with on all kinds of multiplayer games. I feel as if Brink will have a Warhawk type of following if you PS3 guys know what i mean, a loyal dedicated group that loves the game for what it is and not what others want it to be. I appluad Splash Damage for finally catering to OUR crowd and not the mainstream casual FPS garbage thats been out for years now. And that fact that a noob can pick up and jump in easy makes it all the better for those wanting to enrich the community further.

Buzzed ramble OVER! lol see you once PSN is up!

Hey im one of those CoD douchbags, i’ll admit i do go for a kill over an objective but i’ll allways buff my team mates or res them, you’ll usually find me defending areas. for a new player from CoD thats the logical way to play, maybe not the correct way but it works well.

And i encourage CoD players to buy this game on the basis that it might spread the buff love and team work from BRINK to CoD which sorely needs the community to start being nice and help each other, instead of being assholes and lonewolf proghostsniper360noscope douchbags. i personally think this game could benefit from an influx of CoD fans to create a larger community, and when the modtools get released you’ll want the CoD community modders in here as they are some really talented ppl, such as Wildcard, zeroy etc. we certainly dont want the lower end assholes who push the word PRO in your face.
