So DirectX12 is out, is Dirty Bomb going to support it?

(Matuno) #1

Dirty Bomb in its current state is very taxing on one’s CPU, even when a much more powerful graphics card is present.
DirectX12 seeks to make draw calls directly on the GPU, bypassing the CPU and thus, making the CPU much less of a bottleneck.

Now I’m no game developer, and I assume that there’s some extra work involved to make the project run on DirectX12. Depending on how much the game engine itself has been modified, Unreal claims that migrating to DirectX12 is not a big task.

Are there any plans for migrating? What’s keeping you?

The fact that SD is superslow with outstanding bug fixes makes me doubt that.

UE3 doesn’t support DX12 and never will. The game would have to be basically rewritten on UE4.

For UE3? Not true. Point us to the quote?

Shit, you’re right. I need a new pair of glasses.

That would mean people would need to upgrade to Windows 10 to play.

(TheStrangerous) #6

They won’t make me, Win 7, til Windows 11 comes out, or something.
I have an even-numbered Windowsphobia.

(Mrarauzz) #7

Windows 7 ? I’m still on vista

(Penguinexpert1) #8

Well, I’m starting to think you can’t get any worse than Windows 10 at this rate, however Microsoft have said Windows 10 will be the last OS from them.

(FalC_16) #9

I run on win 10 and enjoy myself. I’m so happy I skipped win 8 and jumped on 10 directly from 7. But yeah, my 290x card would really enjoy herself on dx12…I am so curious to see how I overpee gtx980 users xD

If MS is speaking thuth, newer windows will not be released. At least in the next 5-10 years.
I’ve upgraded when 10 released, and every bug I’ve encountered has been fixed since November Update. Now I can only recommend.

That’s the thing about newer Windows versions, the longer they exists, the less problematic they become. I remember how Win 7 had a horrible start.

Only time will do justice.

(Matuno) #12

Knew that the topic would quickly spiral towards Windows 10.
I’ve been on Windows 10 since the ealy preview, no problems whatsoever.

(Faraleth) #13

Unreal Engine 3 is no longer updated and thus no DirectX 12 features, nor support, will be directly implemented.

However, because of this, you should not run into any DirectX 12 related issues from the game.

Actually, I’d rather have IBS than Windows 10.

Same. Some days you’re not sure if you can be doing anything that you can’t immediately drop for a toilet run, and on the other hand, I can go to a four day festival and never have to go near the crapper.

It’s a blessing and a curse!

I still get over 120 fps consistent on Ultra settings with an old Sandy Bridge 2700k i7 from 2012, + a Radeon 280. My max usage when running DB and a ton of other programs is like… 35%.

Are you running the game from a pizza box?

Owch.

System Memory - 8 GB
Core™ i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz
AMD Radeon R9 290 Tri-X

Not a Pizza box I don’t think.

(bgyoshi) #20

Seemingly not a pizza box at all. What kind of usage and frames do you get when you run the game @ settings? There’s nothing terribly taxing about the game and it’s fairly optimized. I get worse performance and more usage from graphically less intense games than DB.

TBH you should push your memory up to 16GB. Win 10 is great but systems use a lot more memory than they did 5 years ago. Running everything I do + DB tends to sit my memory usage around 11GB.
