So, are we going to make Phantom an Engineer now?

Face it, they are never going to make him a Recon merc. And it seems that his abilties and weapons now lend to him being an Engineer.

So, who’s for it? Raise your hands!

I don’t know. EMP does kind of fit into the recon theme of things, more the counter-intelligence aspect than the intelligence aspect. With a disciplined team you could sneak an engineer past sentry turrets and repair an EV without alerting the Bushwacker who planted it. Proxy’s mines might be a little bit more of a problem since it would be safer to disarm while they’re disabled than to try and leave them alone…

Hardly, if it spotted people nearby then maybe, but if anything there is a few major issues here, one being that any deployable disabled gives away Phantom’s position. And if anything they should buff the invisibility aspect and remove the armor if that ends up being the case.

If he’s going to affect deployables, he’s perfect for a stealthy plant, so giving him the ability to tinker with objectives faster would be ideal.

Pffft, stealth with current Phantom… You can’t sprint under cloak while remaining sneaky, and move slower than Vassili even if you do. - Proxy has a better chance just rushing past - and on underground, she’s extremely difficult to chase, due to her explosives.

Fix his cloak’s sneaking ability, even if it costs the armor portion or requires a manual decloak. - Making him an engineer after that, regardless of how loud the cloak is (after that change, it really shouldn’t be) would encourage the enemy team to not just abandon the objective and attempt to spawn camp: otherwise risk a phantom planting behind.

My hope is that gen 2 loadouts give him the mechanic argument.

Buff him with something else, not giving him engineer abilities… His aim should be to use stealth, flanking and surprise attacks to kill shittonnes of people, not to be a near-invincible objective specialist (imagine how ridiculously good he would be at disarming/arming objectives - he just pops his shield on and he’d have about 160 HP to get through (approx) before he gets killed.

Phantom needs, more than anything, to be able to make less noise while invisible. I like the idea that he should only be invisible while standing still, but the fact that this game is so fast paced, it means that hiding in those spots is a huge waste of time (which is why it works on Execution very well, because the game plays much slower, while in Obj and Stopw every second counts for your team, and having a class that requires patience makes that class incredibly ineffective).

So yeah, make Phantom make zero noise whatsoever while he’s crouch walking while invisible, make him make a tiny bit of noise when he’s jogging and invis, and keep the amount of noise he makes while sprinting the same as it is currently. That’d be my suggestion to make him a more viable merc.

but you can crouch, wait, and attack enemy when you want, most likely free kill
it works even on min 20, but sneaky is really helpful

If you’ve spent cloak to reach someplace by crossing an open area, just how long do you think you can wait before your armor runs out and you’re required to wait those agonizing ten seconds (up from the original 6) hoping that no one passes and sees you?

I would like to see him becoming a medic.

(KattiValk) #11

To be fair, he does use a phone that looks to be the same model as the arm/defuse in the scrubs trailer.

No.

For one thing, there are plenty of viable ways Splash Damage could give Phantom a spotting ability that plays into his character. It’s just a matter of Splash Damage taking the initiative to actually do it.

For another, if you include Turtle being an Engineer, we will have 4 mercs per role (Assault, Fire Support, Engineer, Medic, Recon) and moving Phantom from Recon to Engineer will mean having 3 Recons and 5 Engis.
