So... about that team balance...

(melancholyMural) #1

Is it going to happen any time soon (or at least something that’ll alleviate the issue)? Games aren’t fun when you constantly steamroll or get steamroll. Pls devs. Pls.

And yes I know that there’s min lv 10 servers, but a good portion of newcomers aren’t going to stay til lv 10 if a majority of their matches are gonna be one sided. just sayin

Team shuffle by skill/rank should seriously be automatic.

(Ardez1) #3

It does happen automatically, but only at the end of the match. The problem is that a lot of people leave and new players join. Then players are also switching teams to play with friend. Unfortunately casual will never be very balanced because of those two things. Yes, you could implement an auto in-game balance, but I think this would only be actionable due to uneven teams rather then imbalanced(skill wise) teams. Otherwise we would have twice as many posts complaining about missing out on a win because it had swapped their team then we currently do about balance issues.

It is basic forum etiquette to at least read the first page of the board to see if there’s a topic about what you’re about to post before making a new one. If not the second as well.

It stops the board moving so fast that topics are lost and discussion restarted.

You don’t even have to read it, you could just ctrl+f a keyword.

EDIT: Unless you really, really, think you need a new thread because you have a detailed idea.

(melancholyMural) #5

@Ardez I actually haven’t noticed that at all since most of the time I get disconnected from the server every other match I play. Anyway, maybe you’re right about the “uneven” vs “unbalanced” aspect. I don’t think most people even know how to vote to shuffle teams (despite the fact that the amount of times it actually worked is slim); I think these features should be more clearly shown towards players.

@Ghost33 Yeah I guess I probably should’ve checked beforehand. My apologies.

It’s just frustrating that is continues to be an issue, yet there hasn’t been any resolution after a whole month.

(Ghosthree3) #6

Honestly they should just release the next patch with forced shuffle at the beginning of each round. It’s not perfect but it’ll help.

(Ardez1) #7

It would be great for Stopwatch, but no so great for objective mode imho.

(Ghosthree3) #8

…You would shuffle stopwatch games each round? I dunno, it’d just make me hate the mode more if I worked hard to win the first round then got swapped to the team that was gonna lose.

(Azure Emulation) #9

Pre-game team balancing or shuffling will never work. People want to play alongside their friends, and will consequentially switch teams to make that happen.

Post-game team balancing is the only agreeable solution, really. But like @Ardez said, a lot of people tend to just hop between servers, never getting a chance to witness a potentially more balanced match.

game is designed for small teams in small maps. Game is made for comp at the expense of a more social (read balanced and enjoyable) pub game like ET or QW could be.

Time to see DB for what it is and either be good and top shelf or be disappointed

AKA it doesn’t happen as 75% of the players in the next match weren’t in the last match.

The teams should be balanced when the match is about to start and it should be based on your overall past performance (lifetime score per minute for example). This would also fix the issue with outnumbered teams. Like last game the match would have been 5v4, so 3 of them left the lobby and the match was 5v1. Both “teams” ended up just jumping around the EV without shooting.

The current system simply doesn’t work. Every game you either win 100-0 or lose 0-100. Neither scenario is enjoyable.

I still believe that teams should be balanced as soon as everyone is on the server in the warmup period but not during the match. The reason why it doesn’t work like this is the devs don’t want to switch somebody to a side where they picked a merc/loadout for that side. In my experience that’s a total non-issue in Objective and in the case of Stopwatch it doesn’t matter at all. So it’s rather thin reasoning.

What it would do though is upset people who tried to play with or even against their friend and people doing missions where it’s easier to do the mission on one side compared to the other.

However, I think that it’s a lot more important to have evenly skilled matches to keep people from being upset about getting stomped, which does happen often, than it is to maybe upset somebody doing a mission or playing with/against a friend.

(melancholyMural) #14

I think that having party queueing (with friends only ofc) for quick matches alongside with shuffling pre-game would help the issue. That way, teams can be shuffled while keeping friends together. Of course, there should be limits to it since a group of 5 skillful friends queueing together would be almost impossible to balance.

(Amerika) #15

That’s exactly why it’s not allowed. I play with friends all the time but we just play against each other as much as with. It’s fun and we all have good times like you’re supposed to have on pubs. If you want to be more serious and only play with friends just do ranked.

(Derpfestor) #16

The main problem IMO is the fact that many of us players want to win, especially if you have the “Win X number of Objective or Stopwatch matches”.

(_Sniff_) #17

“Many of us players want to win.” :expressionless:
Well, yes. I think many players do want to win but nobody wins every match.

(bumbertyr) #18

Stacking unfortunately is just a normal thing in fps games. people like to play with certain people, some people just switch sides due to some people’s gear/characters/level. It’s nothing that the devs will really be able to control.

People still currently use the server browser to circumvent the issue, and competitive matckmaking isn’t such a great option when your friends don’t want to play serious (not to mention the hacking issue).

Unless there’s a 3rd option (hopefully I’m being too narrow-minded about this), either server browser would be removed or party-queueing would be added (along with the other shenanigans with the balance mentioned earlier in the thread). I’d go for the latter.

I understand that the software can only do so much with regards to balancing by skill, and honestly they can’t have players constantly being swapped back and forth for balancing during a match.
I get more frustrated at the difficulty of finding even numbered matches.

The games mercs, abilities & weapons are painstakingly balanced within the software code, but will still allow a team of 6 to pummel 3 or 4 players repeatedly until they either rage quit or more people join.
I think in some way delaying spawns to the overloaded team could help (as I’ve seen suggested before).
Some incentive to encourage people to actually stay in game instead of bailing during or at the end of every match might help as well. (missions for minutes in game instead of wins?)
