So about that full release on March...

the “SDK” you guys want will never happen, eventually there might be an asset pack people can try make maps with, but don’t hold your breath, it really isn’t necessary

RIP all of good multiplayer games, with their severs shut down (GameSpy comes to mind).

NO DEDICATED SERVERS = SHORTENED LIFESPAN

A dedicated community is the best thing that can ever happen to a game. And when you give the dev tools to them, you can be sure the game will still be alive years after the last official patch.

@ImSploosh We can hope, but they really want this “casual” matchmaking stuff for some reason. I don’t really get it as it stands now; maybe it’ll be improved in some notable way by March, and I can accept it into my heart as I bury the server browser in my back yard with teary eyes and a grave marker made from that 2 x 4 that’s been sitting in the corner of the garage for about a decade.

yeah so I don’t see them abandoning it so I’m just hoping it’ll be good some day.

I’m honestly curious how many players are playing CMM. I mean, I’m sure lots of new players are, but what I want to know is how older players play it. Cause from what I’ve seen, not one of my veteran DB friends enjoy it.
I feel that most of the people playing CMM are new players who just don’t really know any better, like how most people start off using quick join before turning to the server browser.

If SD wants to get in line with other fps multiplayer game, they must have a matchmaking system. But don’t be too optimistic, you’ll still have unbalanced games. While i tested Paladins, i still had clearly unbalanced games despite the game having a higher population.
The only thing really great with the CMM is that we can play with your friends on the same team, being a form of training for the ranked mode. But we somewhat lose the great social aspect we have through the server browser, when staying on the same server with the same players matches after matches.

By the way, if they keep their promises about community servers, they have to keep a server browser.

This being said, im quite sad that the full release is that soon, meaning we’ll keep this meh crafting system and won’t be able to test a system where loadout and skins are separate…

I don’t see why they couldn’t add things after release. Almost all games do, even single player ones. I think they’re rushing release because they want to advertise it more actually. It makes sense. SD already said they don’t want to start real advertising until they’re out of beta. And who wants to join a beta game anyways, eww

@STARRYSOCK It definitely makes sense that they want to be out of beta (whatever that means these days) before trying to expand the playerbase. If I were a new player, I’d nope the fuck out after seeing someone get blasted into another dimension upon approaching the EV.

The two changes im talking about modify the game too much to be put after a release. As for me, when released, game mechanics and gameplay are definitive (like the crafting system or loadouts for example), only new contents will be added. Otherwise, i don’t see the purpose of getting out of beta. And the remaining time until the release date may be too short to test new things.

Gee that doesn’t give you guys much time to fix the crafting system as you said you would.

You’re gonna be busy over Christmas!

True, but we still have plenty of time left. If SD continues to do what they’re doing, releasing broken content, then slowly fixing it over time, they might very well get around to adding some of this other stuff. SD has a lot of people, and it’s not like they’re all working on the same things. While the art team is building the next vassili or proxy, the programmers could imrpove the UI. They have lots of people, I can’t imagine everything taking THAT long to implement. Test fully, sure, but at least you could theoretically iron that out after release if you really had to.

DB is starting to feel like a major school project the more I think about it. Almost no development for the first part, a useless group partner who just slows you down, and now cramming a bunch of new content in before the due date.
