Snipers Too OP?

(farcicalMesh) #1

Snipers are an essential part of the game in Dirty Bomb, but the fact that the statistics on its guns are very overpowered makes it hard to play.

To start off with, the rifle the merc Vassili uses, is already very overpowered. It barely has any recoil compared to a smaller firearm such as a pistol, or revolver. This allows the user/player to spam the weapon and possibly gain many kills. Plus, the weapon has such a high damage that it can one shot any player such as Aura, or Nader repeatedly from far range without even being seen.

Next is the orb that allows the enemy team to see you and your team. It has such a tiny ball that it is very difficult to neutralize and destroy or find. This is very annoying because the enemy team will know exactly where you are and will have an advantage over your team

Suggestions?

I’ve never gotten the opportunity to play a sniper class…yet. What’s the rate of fire on the sniper primaries? I’ve been the victim of several bodyshotters who can pump me full of rounds from across the map before I can even react.

I would say at first they’re annoying but well and truly not OP.

PDP can no longer headshot instagib, a sizeable nerf in usefulness, though you will still get pumped full of bullets from across the map, with a fairly high fire rate and being the only real semi-auto sniper, the rest being bolt/lever/whatever.

FEL-IX and MOA are both high damage rifles, but one of them is severely more gimped than the other, having 79 damage and some real bad stats. If I recall correctly, MOA is better than the Felix, but this is just off the top of my head.

One of the snipers (I think MOA) used to do 80 bodyshot damage. Then they nerfed it to 79, without changing the reload/firing rate/clip size so it remains mediocre in it’s current state.

As for his heartbeat sensor, it is not OP. Sure, annoying to find, but it lasts about 17-18 seconds, and is usually extremely obvious unless the Vassili was super sneaky about placement. Usually this doesn’t happen because no Vassili in their right mind would run into close quarters just for some sneaky heartbeat placement.

Though I will admit the range is quite large, and by quite I mean very.

Headshotting also takes a lot of skill in this game, and with aimpunch and sway and everything, it adds up to quite a bit. If you play Vassili, you start to gain a respect for the Vassilis that are able to constantly headshot.

And lastly, yes it is annoying that Vassili gets to use machine pistols. This makes him strong at long, and close ranges (strong enough), but I don’t think that really warrants a nerf. Maybe when Aimee comes out we will see tweaks.

Good to see your thoughts though, and thankfully you have more sense than some other people on the forum.

[left]Play the game more, because the problems you are mentioning aren’t. Especially as far as “being pumped with body shots from across the map”, if you play Vassili with any of his weapons, you will realize it takes two to make this scenario happen: A very skilled Vassili (even and especially using a PDP, if we’re talking about across-map distances) and a very bad player making themselves an easy target.

  • If you haven’t disabled most of your graphics affects, the trails left behind by Vassili’s shots are really easy to spot.
  • The FEL-IX is the one that does 79 damage and used to do 80. Obviously, this is a low-effort one-shot against Sparks, Aura, etc. so it got nerfed to one-shot them only after they’ve been scratched or have smelled a really bad fart. Beside that 4 damage advantage, the FEL-IX has one less shot per magazine, fires slower and reloads slower than the MOA.
  • The Heartbeat sensor is extremely easy to counter. It has a small radius and does not stick to walls - meaning it has to lay on top of something a player can stand on. That greatly reduces the possible places it can be used, and most the time you can counter-locate using intuition/movement. (Oh, I’m detected. Let me move 5 feet to the right. Oh, now I’m not detected. It has to be somewhere towards the left then.)

I frequently incap players using back to back body shots. Most Vassilis won’t play this way, and that’s only a shortcoming on their part. This isn’t a matter of not being skilled, I assure you I work for both those hits: It’s about being smart instead. Either you take my first hit and retreat or move forward - meaning I’ve both done around 70 damage and forced you to move (and possibly made you an easy kill for one of my teammates), or you decide make yourself an easy followup shot for me by staying in an area I can just hit you again. If you’re ever standing still, then I’ll take that free headshot instagib. Against another sniper, the need for a headshot is greatly amplified, as is any situation where an incap’d enemy will be obscured from a gib takedown.

Otherwise, you might as well complain about enemies running away from you when they notice you have a shotgun ~~ It’s all about checks and balances. In the long run, the bolt-actions have extremely low damage output. And the PDP is not that easy to just keep spamming — past lvl5, moments where enemies are in ideal range and are NOT capable of shooting/aimpunching/killing Vassili do not present themselves frequently. You might find videos of someone playing in a match against less-than-lvl10’ers and demonstrating once in a while “Oh, this PDP is a little too easy to use” in the entire match, but there aren’t any videos of it against all lvl20’s and up. Otherwise, it’d be all over the competitive scene, which it isn’t.

Note: I used to main Vassili, but now I’ve only been playing him about once or twice a week. I actually deliberately choose not to play him as selecting him in place of most other mercs SEVERELY handicaps the team in terms of utility and force. If a team is without any snipers whatsoever, he might be a helpful addition, otherwise, many others will substitute more than well enough but be able to give health, ammo, pineapples, etc.

I disagree I call myself the sniper god with the PDP I can do anything kill anyone from any range to the point where people think I’m a hacker close or long range not a problem for me. That’s why I think it needs a nerf. It’s so easy for me to use that I play red eye without thinking really just aim shoot there ya go a free kill and another and another. Next thing you know I’m topping the leader board. Check out my post on here it’s called all snipers need a nerf I edited it a lot so take a look at it again if you already have.

Got to be honest this sounds more like you don’t like getting sniped, which I can understand because it is an ego hit but you just gotta suck it up and try yo make yourself harder to hit!
