Snipers in ranked?

Do you see/use them in ranked?
Talking about Aimee and Vaseline, as poor Phantom has little to no use, and Redeye is fine (unless he is spamming smoke mindlessly helping the enemies more than his own team).

I mean, i don’t see them being too useful in any team composition. You need at least one med and one fire support, and an engineer (at least on offense) so you have 2 slots left in the team. It could be the obvious choice to add one assault and one recon, but 99% of the time i’d have a second assault/fire support, or even a second medic instead of a sniper.

Sure, a good player can deny open areas with a sniper, but so does a fire support. And most of the time the fights happen in close-mid range, where full auto/burst rifles are superior. Plus, hanging back means you are far from teammates: medics won’t revive/heal snipers, and they will run out of ammo. Plus being away has the additional downside, that if your team gets wiped (because they are fighting 5v4 in practice), even if you manage to pick off the whole enemy team with your sniper, by the time you move up to push in the EV or deliver the carriable objective, the enemy team respawns.

TL,DR: despite the whole game being designed around 5v5, snipers fit 7v7 and 8v8 more.
Does anyone have positive experience with sniping in ranked?

Snipers can be very strong at holding choke points, as well as giving Intel with heartbeat sensor or snitch.
But only a good sniper is helpful, bad vassili is always bad. As long as you have 2 medics in your team, you can have other mercs.
After all, you’ll never say to ragnak to go away with his redeye.

if you are talking about min7 foolfest, it dosent matter

Wow, 2 of the 3 answers have nothing to do with the topic…
I’ll react to those anyway:
I like ranked because of 4 things:
1- friendly fire (so you have to be more careful)
2- smaller team size (it actually does matter which merc do you pick, and what you do)
3- because of the first 2 it has much less ability spam, and more shooting
4- more teamplay (for example if someone plays medic in ranked, he is usually healing+reviving teammates, not just healing himself, and assaults don’t try to repair while there’s an engi nearby, but they secure the area. FYKI this isn’t the case in casual)

My only problem with ranked is the too little playerbase, which leads to long queue times, and large skill gap between the players in the same match.

So they are good defense i guess. Looks like I just haven’t seen a sniper perform well (yet).

I’d say having at least one fire support is just as important as having medics (unless everyone has the looter augment and there are plenty of fire supports on the enemy team) because you’ll eventually run out of bullets no matter how good players do you have.

Yeah, Redeye is super useful, he can easily cover a plant/defuse/repair or even fake a push with the smoke, and he can also stay with the team (both grandeur and dreiss have decent hipfire accuracy, so he can CQC if he wants to)

the reason i said my point earlier is unless the ranked is really fixed, we cant really enjoy it.
thats is a shame tho, this game was a teamplay competitive at its core.

and playing ranked right now is just isnt worth my time unless the credit multiplier is like x3 or x5

ive seen some ranked play with good people playing vasilli (they are gone now)
vasilli is a monster on its own if the player can play it right. He can see thru walls, expecting enemies coming from a corner, baiting medic on rezzing a downed player then the whole team would just tear apart from the medic being dead most of the time and everybody else get picked apart by the assaults and outgunned.

well if youre planting with smoke on the plant zone its gonna be very obvious and people just gonna throw grenade or explosives or just spraying the smoke until they found you planting.
