Snipers, headshots and instagibs

Had a few month break from the game and upon return noticed that snipers no longer enjoy instagibs on headshots.

What what the justification behind that change and what do you guys think about it?

Perhaps restoring such a bonus rewarding precise aiming would also be helpful in countering Sparks’ ranged revives?

In comp (tourneys especially), a single sniper could take out the other team’s medic or engineer, leaving them unable to be revived. This gave the sniper’s team a considerable advantage.

Or something like that. Either way, it was pretty annoying.

Understandable, but isn’t this a primary purpose of sniper, to eliminate key mercs? Anyway, since the majority of playerbase is casual, why didn’t they remove instagibs just from competitive?

I don’t know, since I don’t play comp. I can say that instagibs were very annoying when you were against a good Vass.

Vassilli with the instagib was seriously op in the hands of a good sniper.

Everybody is talking about those “OP good snipers” while saying that “snipers are useless” at the same time. It’s been just the same when Vassili had ability to instagib. See where I’m getting?

The difference is he is much better balanced at a competitive level now than he was when he had his instagib.

Most of the gibbing mechanics have cooldowns, Vasilli didn’t, he could gib someone every 1.5 seconds or however long the rof was before the change. That was ridiculous, and to top it off Vasilli had no counter except another Vasilli. I’d say the nerf was needed, now if only they could get rid of that stupid sway crap.

How about giving him a secondary ability, like 5 seconds during which any headshot kills will instagib, with a 20 second cooldown?

Too much hassle for casuals and pros would abuse it anyway. Unless it’s a passive skill, to be able to instagib on headshot every 10 seconds, in which case it could be great.

I think giving vassili a 2nd ability, like loading a special round into the chamber that would instagib if he got a headhsot kill on the next shot only and then went on cooldown after would let him keep his main utility but deal with the issue of him being able to instagib way too frequently.

Main problem here. If you haven’t before watch a vassili montage on youtube and you will see why instagib got taken away from him. Most mercs have gibs that have cooldowns however vassili being able to gib half in the team in a matter of seconds was just too strong.

This actually may be a good idea as it gives him the pressure and that one chance to take out an important merc.

Once again, too much hassle and having the pressure to connect that one bullet would only worsen sniper’s performance.

Unless you make headshot instagib passive ability based on internal cooldown plus instagibs against enemies who carry/repair/plant/defuse objective.

i want the instagib back. not being able to finish people that are laying down behind a wall is annoying. it also took away the fun out of headshotting people

I actually quite like part of that idea, instagibbing enemies carrying/doing objectives, it’s annoying trying to stop an engineer’s defuse with a medic there.
