SMG Reserve Ammo

(Serval) #1

Currently, SMGs have the following ammo per mag/reserve ammo and totals:

Bulpdaun - 27/135 (162 total: 6 mags) <-- Has higher accuracy to compensate (??)
CARB-9 - 30/150 (180 total: 6 mags)
Tampa - 30/150 (180 total: 6 mags)
Kross - 35/175 (210 total: 6 mags) <-- Lower damage than above three hence larger mags & matching reserve ammo
Galactic - 45/135 (180 total: 4 mags) <-- Lowest damage - is SOL in the ammo department unless I’m missing something

Is this how it’s meant to be (I only think the Galactic has a problem)?

The galactic also has one of the highest equip speeds next to the Tampa, if memory serves. So, along with its lower overall ammo count, I think its intended for people who want an SMG as a literal sidearm, quick switching to it if they run out of ammo.

Wouldn’t you want your weapon that you pull out in ****uations to kill people quickly (eg. Tampa/CARB), not be the theoretically slowest killing SMG? The Galactic also has the same equip speed as the Kross (which is more accurate and does 1 more damage per shot while having the largest total ammo count) and the CARB is faster than both (by 30ms).

If the reduced ammo count (and low damage to boot) was to encourage using it as a backup weapon why does it have the same total ammo as the Tampa when that is higher damaging?

Tampa magazine = 660 total damage
Galactic magazine = 765 total damage but it takes 50% longer to apply all that damage

It just seems odd to me that the Galactic has a large clip and the lowest damage with a lower total ammo count than the Kross - which also has an above avg. mag size (but less so), a tiny bit more damage, faster reload and higher accuray.

The stats I’m going by are from here, and assume no attachments on the weapons (seeing as it was stated somewhere I’ve forgotten that the PC balance changes are being applied with the next patch, these stats should still be correct).

galactic holds 90 rounds with a drum, so it’s a good side arm to just spray if you’re in a tough spot and have to reload or run out of ammo with your primary. The damage is good, if it was any higher you may as well let lights run around with miniguns. Most primary weapons available to lights, besides for the rifles, should feel like secondaries - which the galactic nails.

edit: this type of stuff is why they don’t release all the numbers, they just want to you play the game and experiment on your own.
If you did, you’d realize having a weapon that can quickly spew 90 bullets without having to reload once can be worth the trade off in firepower and can save your butt many times, especially if you’re using it because you don’t have time to reload your other weapon - a reloading bad guy is a dead bad guy.

If they released the numbers everyone would just use the same 2 guns without ever trying anything else.

The Tampa could also be used that way, yes, but the galactic is a lot more stable. I find the Tampa to be little more than a shotgun when i use it, and when i treat it like a shotgun, it works quite well.
