I want to bring up a discussion on Thunder’s and Fragger’s Light Machine Guns, the K-121 and the MK46 respectively. If you played back when these weren’t swapped, I’d like to bring up why they make perfect sense for their original merc or at least for them to have access to these for the price of burst rifles.
The K-121 was given to Fragger and the MK46 was given to Thunder due to the fact that before the K-121 was awful in comparison, maybe making it serve a tier bellow Thunder’s minigun, a rapid fire/low damage weapon.
Why do these make no sense as they are now?
In Thunder’s case, his high health makes him a good damage sponge but his lack of speed makes him better at fighting close-mid/mid-long range, especially if a concussion grenade is thrown.
That along with the blinding effect or vision disrupting effect of his grenades, Thunder could toss a grenade and quickly kill at a long distance enemies with the higher damage/lower rate of fire K-121.
In Fragger’s case, due to his higher mobility, access to more powerful pistols and actually damaging grenades which can be cooked and tossed at closer ranges he fits a lot more in the concept of being a close/mid range pointman, especially if a frag grenade was to be thrown.
With a well cooked grenade, Fragger could toss a grenade and follow through, killing off enemies injured by his grenades if not outright killed and still have the ammo to fight off those who aren’t even hurt.
I’d like to also bring up burst rifle for their loadouts, while it makes sense that these are to fill a long range alternative to these Mercs, Burst rifles don’t seam all that fitting as Assaults should be closer to the thick of a fight. In a case of not swapping the LMGs, why not replace them with the burst rifles, making the automatic rifles as a lower ammo capacity but higher reload speed alternative to the K-121 and the MK46 seeing as many mercs have access to at least one weapon that could be an analogue of their defaults (Proxy/Aura, Stoker/Thunder, SMG mercs, Rhino/Fletcher)?
