Small Phoenix change

[s]I have been playing Phoenix a lot recently and honestly self receive seems a little too unreliable to have a 60 second cool down. I think it would make sense to either remove Phoenix’s self revive cool down or instantly recharge it on respawn. since it is easily countered and it is the characters trademark ability.

Changed due to the overwhelmingly negative response’s to initial idea:

If self revive is successfully completed the recharge will only be 30 seconds, however if Phoenix is more than half way through the revive and is finished the recharge will be increased to 1 minute 15 seconds. This would encourage smart usage of the ability instead of just immediately trying to revive once downed as most Phoenix players seem to do. The ability would be more rewarding when used in strategic situations instead of the current reward which requires no planning.[/s]

Changed due to…

My god this was a terrible idea. After playing Phoenix more I realize he is actually quite balanced in his current state.

Personally I feel like the ability could use one of these 3

  • Gib health restores at consistent rate while self reviving
  • You are granted armor upon self revive (like Phantom’s Armor)
  • The self revive takes less time to complete or has a 45 second cooldown instead of 60.

It’s not supposed to be reliable, sure it’s phoenix’s namesake, but it’s his third ability. I see it as something just thrown in with his main abilities.

The only thing I dislike with Phoenix’s self-revive is that in many cases you can’t risk using it. If there’s a chance an enemy will finish you off just after the self-revive activates you’ll be stuck without self-revive for 60 seconds.

I know some players like that this requires you to make a smart decision, but I believe this detracts more than it adds to the game. It isn’t exactly that hard to figure out when to attempt a self-revive for experienced players. This also has to be very unintuitive and frustrating for beginners.

While I’d ideally like to it changed so Phoenix simply can’t be finished off after self-reviving, this is probably too complex to code. A good compromise might be a reduced cooldown of around 20 to 30 seconds if Phoenix is finsihed off after self-reviving. There would still be a small downside to a failed self-revive, but not so huge that new players would be overly punished for always attempting to self-revive.

Self-revive is not meant to be reliable, and is only insurance when you’re killed and lucky enough not be finished off in the 5-6 seconds it takes to fully get up. If you get gibbed right in the middle of a successful revive, you fucked up plain and simple. Either let the enemies finish you off, or hope your teammates are smart enough to cover you enough to get back on your feet

You guys also need to realize that the threat of a Phoenix getting up is also a very powerful tool. If you plan your fights right, the enemy will have to either pick finishing you off or dealing with your teammates first. As much as I’ve been robbed of a self-revive, I can think of countless situations where enemies couldn’t do one or the other and it ended up costing them the skirmish with nearly all of my downed teammates up and healed

Use your self-revive intelligently. Don’t try to solo fights unless you know the enemy’s distracted by your teammates and can get easy revives. You can use your self-revive for niche tactics to help open up a shortcut for your team.

Again, never down yourself unless you know that the enemy has to choose between killing you and your teammates, or you are away from conflict altogether.
