Small Maps

I was curious as to what everyone here has to say about small maps. I personaly would like to play on some smaller maps with less people.

I was thinking small as in 6 vs 6 games.

Right now when you join a server with less people the maps are just too big, they are not meant for this.

I’m asking this because I presume most mappers will be making fairly large maps.

I love small maps. However, you would need a full rotation of them.

The ET maps really arn’t as big as they seam either, because for the most part you only use half of each one at a time. ET 7v7 is quite fun. I think for public play 6v6 is pushing it a bit.

The problem is that you have to give the players an experience that allows them to gain acceptable amounts of XP. Longer/larger maps are more conducive for ET’s gameplay.

I love small maps and if one can make a map that works and suits the game play of ET it’d be great. How small map are you planning?
And please, someone make a good 1on1-map, we need one! Check my thread.

OTOH, a 9 map campaign of small 10 minute maps could give you the same XP as a 3 map campaign of large 30 minute maps.

I don’t see any reason why they would all have to be made by the same person. If people coordinate to make them fit together as a campaign, that is nice, but not required. Server admins or other third parties can make campaigns after the fact.

i dont really think longer maps really would make a diff. i think youd have to make a map that was really really hard for both sides. some of the maps are kinda easy. well i dunno i guess it all depends on whois on your team and how well they play i guess.

It would be nice to see some smaller (rtcw-sized) maps for ET. In fact, I wouldn’t mind helping out in a mapping project between a group of mappers… If anyone is looking for an extra map (preferably small map) for their campaign, let me know.
