Small change to Redeye (neither buff nor nerf)

It seems that his eye doesn’t last as long as the smoke, and i feel that it’s a problem since the redeye is basically pointless outside of smoke (yours or another’s). So how about we either: 1. Reduce the duration of the smoke (and CD) and so it’s inline with the redeye’s duration… or … 2. Increase the duration of redeye along with its max CD.

yeah… no

the idea that you should be able to sit through the entire smoke’s duration and just see&tag everyone is a big no-go!

Infrared used to be around 4 seconds total, and it was even better then, use smoke to cover for your teammates, not purely to wallhack enemies from safety.

have to disagree, I mean I see where you are coming from but the IR is far from being useless without the smoke. Tagging enemies is quite important.

Think about it that way. The smoke duration determines how long you disrupt enemy vision. the IR duration determines how long on top of the duration you becomes deadlier.

Two things about the IRs. The cooldown on the IRs work like Rhinos minigun/MG nest overheat, as long as you don’t brick them against the maximum cooldown time, you can freely activate and deactivate them.
Since they work with every smoke, you need them more often than your own smoke. since you have to counter use them against enemy smoke.
So wasting them over your full smoke duration and having similar CD would be quite bad.

Tagging enemies doesn’t seem to be a good use of the IR IMO. You’re better off letting vasilli do that job instead. Most of the time, you’d rather save the IR for odd situations (such as an airstrike that obscures view or a phantom) or another smoke grenade. Since you can’t rely on external factors, it’s basically either smoke and IR or nothing.

The point is Vassili and Redeye are filling a similar spot in a team. You will most likely not have a Vassili, when you got a Redeye and vice versa. Infact I could imagine that in a comp play team Red eye and Vassili will be on the same player and he switches between them depending on the situation.

Also Redeyes spotting is alot more dynamic, while Vassili will most likely have the most important shokepoint/flanking route covered.
Redeye can quickly tag enemies that are not at those spots. The googles are especially great to get quick intel both for yourself and your team. A short peak when entering a combat zone will highlight everyone hiding, for yourself (easy to spot white glows) and shortly after give your team the heads up, where 2-3 baddies are sitting and they should focus their fire at.

Personaly I see myself using and abusing the googles far more often than the smoke. Quite often even forgeting that I have it with me. With the smoke you have to always have in the back of your head how it will affect your team. googles are a no brainer only positives.

@Gi.Am
some spots to throw the smoke at are pretty obvious:

  • chokes that your team has to run through (terminal 2nd obj left staircase, chapel ‘chapel street’)
  • defensive spots of the enemy team/crossfires (chapel last ev phase ramp, terminal balcony, terminal luggage bottom, etc.)
  • objectives when done by teammates (cover repairing engineers, covering plant; covering defuse)
  • ambush attempts (last ditch smoke at c4 to hide in and prevent defuse, smoke at enemy’s reinforcement path, smoke before B&E an area)

True true, all good spots defnitive gonna try them (haven’t been to terminal second stage with Redeye so far. And I can add a few more. Infront of enemy MGs to protect your team and gives you a few milliseconds more to line up the shots. Not only trying to have a smoke ready for easier EV repair but also inbetween EV and enemy to give Arty a harder time to target.

But on the other side was playing trainyard (defense) recently and while the smoke saw heavy usage on the first objective. I hardly hit it on the later stages. Especially 3 I think I used it maybe 3 times top. While in contrast was hitting IR googles constantly, to snitch on the positions of the enemy.

True maybe I gotta learn more positions where I can apply the smoke, and I will most definitive find more usage for them over time (pretty much the same like bushwhacker turrets and such). But my main gist is that IR isn’t useless (without smoke) and infact can be used constantly to help the team. While the smoke powerfull as it is, is a bit more situational.

Please, if you play with Red Eye, learn to use the smoke. It can be disadvantage too u know.
If you just put it front of your team, your team cannot see through it and only one that can do then the spotting and killing is you. And if you suck or happen to die, we’re screwed for the duration of the smoke.

It doesn’t help to push through the smoke if you don’t know what’s in the other side of it and also if you as Red Eye aren’t looking what comes through smoke it can surprise the team that the smoke is supposedly covering for.
