I was just sat here going through a momentary creative block and was wondering how you guys keep your creative juices flowing, I have created most of the architecture for my map but im struggling with the final terrain layout.

So feel free to spout your secrets!!!

P.S Have a good new year

I find that watching the History Channel or the Discovery channels to find some programmes about WWII or watch Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Enemy at the Gates, Where Eagles Dare, The Longest Day and basically anything from that era. I just see architecture or landscape that inspires me and gives me a push towards a layout or map idea. I got my idea for my map St Nazaire from watching the History Channel it just seemed like a great scenario.

PIMP: My map St Nazaire will be released as a final version v.v.v.soon just tweaking terrain and eye candy.

See ya

p.s. Would anyone be interested in seeing some pictures of Pillboxes that are around my area of the country, i’ve seen some nice concrete ones and some brick ones, just thought it might help some people visualise a proper bunker look.

My creativity when mapping is extremly limited lol.

What I usually do is a 2-3 step process. First I work on the overall idea of the map, what the purpose of the map is. Then I plan out all the routes roughly, how I want them to work and where possible choke points will be etc. In this stage I also think about the looks of the map, in simple terms, a tunnel here, a buildning there etc. In the latest step I try to scribble down a scetch of the map, with everything on it, it looks like shite usually but I use that as a guide, nothing more. Things usually change when I start working on the map, but it usually ends up familiar to the scetch anyway. None of these steps means the end result will actually be anything releasable, lots of maps have been put on the scrap pile.

if im doing the map for something like christmas ill make a rough plan, then i just open radiant and start drawing, also if i have terrain things tend to go into a bit more detail
