I bet that slide tackles will be spammed in the beginning. Once people learn how to deal with them, they will die down like all new things.
Slide knockdown the new dolphin dive?
A) You can’t spam a slide tackle: The hitboxes when players are on their ass is quite good as is evident by the last videos where the player is shooting downed players and it’s hitting well, even during the transition from standing to on their bums.
Also you need momentum to slide tackle. Which means you need a run up, which means you can be shot prior to arriving… get it? Why would they put a non-counterable thing into the game?
B) Heavies shouldn’t be slide tackled by lights? “The bigger they are the harder they fall.” Seriously… centre of balance is higher, and legs are relatively small. With enough force if you knock someone’s legs out they will fall irrespective of the weight of them or the attacker. F=MA. Mass of a light is lower, but is countered by a highter Acceleration of the light.
If the slide is anything like in the game F.E.A.R. I think it won’t be a problem. It will only work on unaware people (and in FEAR it was a 1 hit kill, in BRINK only a knock down). When someone has already spotted you and you try to tackle him you are just an easy predictable target to kill and you can dodge the tackle by jumping.
I hope this doesn’t get spammed to much lol, it definitely has potential to be really abusive if implemented wrong.
Tbh I think I don’t like it very much, will have to see how it plays out tho. It’s like the perfect thing for my playstyle from ET:QW tho, just jumping/sliding into people lol

I’m with you. I don’t like the idea of it at all.
That said, if it’s something that can only be done while you’re mid-sprinting, that’s no problem. Getting knocked down like that, you simply should have been more aware of the enemy.
Sliding is one thing, but there is quite a few ways as has been pointed out that cause a knock down. So far we know that certian melee attacks, tackling/sliding, grandes and molotov’s cause knock down, and I don’t know for sure but there might be other knock down effects from other explosive weapons.
So what happens when you add all these together? I try to have faith that this will be balaced, but my experince in these types of games lead me to think this could turn into a knockdown spam fest, not all the time maybe, but in certain choke points perhaps, It could get very annoying. But hey I have too much time on my hands to speculate these days. I have faith that after launch nerfing will balance things out if needed.
I’m kinda hoping that there are skills that you can unlock that may give knock down resistance or faster recovery, depending on the class.
I like the emphasis on knock downs actually. It totally fits the objective oriented style of this game, where being unable to move is almost as bad as being dead. Where it’s not about kills but about making sure your opponent doesn’t get to do what he wants to do.
I think we’ll first see players sprinting towards you and not shooting, just to use the slide, give it a week or so and everyone will know how to avoid it.
I can see how the slide tackle would be useful. But who is really going to use it “on purpose” when they could start shooting first to get EXP (i don’t think i’ve ever seen EXP awarded for tackles). I understand that you can slide tackle them, then shoot them while they are on the ground. But in the “Basic Gameplay” video where the guy slide tackles into a player that had his back to him. Why didn’t he just shoot the guy into Incap before the slide? He would have gotten more EXP, and made the player useless to his team alot quicker.
I can see slide tackles being used after falls, mantles, or wall hops (Lights), or perhaps if you are running and you happen upon somebody out of nowhere and you just slide tackle out of that “Oh Sh!t” moment. But using it instead of shooting, nades, molotovs, etc. I can’t see because you are just robbing yourself of EXP imo.
I dont mind dolphin diving or proning if you couldnt shoot while in the animation.

This is how I view it, what’s the point of slide tackling someone and exposing yourself when you can just shoot them
I agree with this as well. Although in accordance with the continuation of the discussion, you are able to fire your weapon while sliding, climbing, etc. So you could possibly start unloading your SMG into the guy while sliding into him.
But I’m still pretty sure that you’ll want to shoot 1st, slide tackle only when its convenient. I doubt people will go out of their way to slide tackle instead of shoot
