- I get killed BEFORE being able to throw it,
- airstrike counts as thrown and a full countdown goes in effect.

It reminds me of a similar situation with nader:
Yeah, it’s pretty ridiculous that if you have an airstrike marker armed and you get killed before throwing it, the marker just disappears and you get the full cooldown. This is one of the small issues that should be fixed ASAP.
Two suggestions from the top of my head:
If you get killed before throwing an armed airstrike marker, the marker drops to the ground and functions normally as it does when thrown. So if you’re outdoors the strike gets called on your body and indoors it works as a grenade with the 75% reduction to cooldown. Skyhammer is mostly used on defence and if you get killed in close combat while throwing an airstrike, it can still be useful by forcing the attackers to take cover from the strike and wait for it to go off.
An armed marker that isn’t thrown disappears like it currently does, but instead of full cooldown you get 75% reduction to cooldown just as if you had thrown it indoors.
In the Fragger thread one of the devs posted that this is a bug because what they changed to change Fragger affected most if not all throwable abilities. Vassilis heartbeat sensor has the same thing
