Skins

(spookify) #1

There has only been small talk about skins. Now we have a preview of what some might look like.

Cool little color changes and what not but you all know me I want to know and see what happens and a competition/FPS/Tweaked CFG…

Bitey posted a sweet CFG that really helped my AIM and especially help me focus on players.

What would Bitey’s CFG look like with all those different skins? My biggest concern is, is the color contrast great enough so that with a tweaked CFG you can still tell the enemy apart even with out the color indicator?

Can anyone do some screen shots of fulled tweaked CFG’s to show the stark contrast?

Also how many people’s game actually look like the image I attached?

We got a more significant preview back in September with 6 different sets of skins modeled by both Sawbonez and Proxy:

Still downloading the update so I can’t comment yet on how they look in-game.

Enemies still have a red glow on them, so I have no trouble seeing them from far away.

(RasteRayzeR) #4

The example picture is not the best sample of what skins are about. Players won’t buy skins if it just changes the colors of the clothes, but if it changes the global look of the characters. There will be more differences between the skins of the same character imo, each time with adaptations for the teams.

(INF3RN0) #5

People like to buy themed skins that give real unique appearance. Colors can be used to maintain visual identification, however I don’t see the current character skins selling as much as the LoL style ones. The weapon skins will do well, however I wouldn’t see any harm in adding unique weapon models even. I hope to see some more risque outfits or individually purchase-able cosmetic pieces (glasses, necklaces, etc- maybe that build into a full set??) because I think it can be done in a way that won’t intrude on the game and will be more beneficial to the micro-transaction eco in the future. Even adding a feature like earning a “mystery case” every 10 levels, which you then need to buy a key off the in game store to open (giving you a random chance item/skin). I just want to see the aesthetic market be the big source of income for xT so that we can avoid any chance of other marketable things that actually effect game play experience in a negative or limiting way.

We’ll also have ‘Elite’ version of skins too which include remodelled elements of the characters and a very distinct look but they’ll be much more rare.

Regarding settings, before release we’ll have everything we want players to be able to edit in the options menu, with realistic min and max settings.

Configing is fine for now but will be discouraged/prevented once we’re happy with the advanced settings we have.

(tokamak) #7

Speaking of which: Still don’t like the hud indicators on enemies. Apart from anything that’s scouted the enemy shouldn’t have any indication at all.

what?

10char

(stealth6) #9

Why would you do either of these things? Using configs is faster, easier and allows players to share their settings conveniently. You don’t have to promote it as the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it would be nice to have that option in the game.

(Smooth) #10

We’ll probably allow you to edit the configs directly if you wish, but we likely wont be allowing you to edit anything that’s not in the options menu eventually.

This can provide an unfair (and unintended) advantage over users who aren’t in to that sort of thing. We’re all about keeping things on a level playing field in every way possible :smiley:

you cfgs we are using now for perfomance boost wont be useable in a future?

(Smooth) #12

Most of the settings you’re using to gain performance will eventually be in the advanced options menu :slight_smile:

There’s a few settings, like super-low-res textures, that we’ll disallow since it makes it far too easy to spot players trying to hide compared to the default settings. We’ll also improve performance in general before release.

(dirtybomber) #13

maybe u should just release optimization update? LOL

(Smooth) #14

We will before release. Currently we’re working on getting the rest of the game systems completed and in place.

This is a Closed Beta Test, optimization comes towards the end.

Can be cool to restrict the Screen ratio to !

You can achieve the same thing by having a lower FoV, suddenly omg the players are bigger on my screen.

Doesn’t really make a difference because weapon spread and recoil stays the same although both appears worse when things are zoomed or stretched.

It’s no different than having a really huge monitor with a super high resolution. We can’t really control that :stuck_out_tongue:

I dont do any files mod , and I wondering if its not one of the reason why I died often very fast as like my last game ,wasnt not fun At ALL for me !

Thanks for the feedback Smooth!

I am totally fine with the Client Net not changing. Anything that can lag or create a glitch feel protect that stuff.

I am mostly concerned about all the LODBias’s… I can not handle a high detail LODBias… I lose my crosshair to easy… The low detail or flat imagines also reminds me of my ET CFG.

Can someone quickly answer answer if 2 is for more detail and -2 is less detail? I cant remember…

MobileLODBias=-0.5???
SkeletalMeshLODBias=1???
ParticleLODBias=0??
DetailMode=0???

bUseTextureStreaming=False
bSmoothFrameRate=False
(Both Need to be in-game?)

bSmoothFrameRate

What about refresh rate? My monitor is 144hz…

P.S. As a lot of people know I was complaining about my auto fire pulling off or stopping while in a fight. I posted it in the bug section but after doing some research I found my Logitech G500 has a history of Left Mouse Pulling Off. I bought a G700 to hopefully solve this problem.

One Last Question. ET had a CVAR m_pitch 0.022 does that exist in xT? I miss my m_pitch 0.01501…
