skin 'em alive!

So I was thinking, having never played with skin files at all - would it be possible to reskin a regular md3 using skin files or does the md3 have to be made with skins in mind at creation time?

I was considering reskinning some of the SD models for use in my map if possible. And if it is possible, does anyone have any good links/info on how to use/create skin files?

The skin file itself looks pretty straight forward, I just figured it’d be better to ask for some info first.

i’m not sure, but if i’m right you can point to skins with entiny info, so i think you can change them. Haven’t tested it myself

You should be able to add skins post creation. In Quake 3, new player skins are released for exisiting models all the time for

I reskined the “lander” models from RtCW…

Used a Hex editor (!!) to amend the .md3 directly and created an new shader reference in it instead of it’s oringinal one.

Find the assocaited real skinning image and replace the name in the new md3 with your replacement, then save the md3 under a new name.
