Skies

(???HoneyBear) #1

First map. I have the skybox made and till now have been lighting the map with regualr lights all over the place, outside even. The sky textures I have tried ( the few I could find under textures) produced no light, and just plain aren’t working, when I open the map in et its just the small sky pictures tiled with no light emitting from them. Have been searching the various tutorials but still I havnt figured why its not working.

I am confused by the cloud layer too?

What exactly do I place on my brushes at the top of my box.?
Is there a standard sky height?

look at working ET sky shaders and you will find the comands you need to make sun light

I feel your information is cryptic. More direction please. I’m really trying just confused.
I have opened goldrush to look for sky shaders it doesn’t help, I do’t even know wha+t a hint brush is, can I not map then???

sky shaders are in the etmain>scripts folder they can be opend in a text editor

Some of those skies don’t work. Try using a different one to texture your box. Try sd_siwasky, or sd_batterysky. I think those both work. They won’t look right in Radiant, but when you compile and load ET they should work OK.

Thankyou I found the sd_batterysky and seems available, I will compile with this sky and see how itt looks after work.

Edit:
I tried skies/sd_batterysky it aint pretty but hell if i aint just pleased as punch that it works like a charm. Now time to erase about 30 lights. Thanks for the help.

May I ask about cloud layers too?(i.e.How do you make them, what are they compatible with???)

(I’m such a noob that my next step is to learn how to make objectives thanks for helping any of you smart folks, hopefully someday my friends and I will be playing on my very own map))
