Single Player = Online?

You can hear what I mean at 8:50 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JN_mF-u6do8

Does this mean there is no way to play “true” single player offline, with 7 bots on your team and 8 on the other? Or does he mean this guy chose to play online co-op, but with no friends?

(trigg3r) #2

yes, you can play offline with just bots

(Bridger) #3

I’ve also heard them say you can play single player offline.

AFAIK If you start a match yourself, you can choose who can join:

  1. Noone
  2. Coop only - people can join your team with bots filling the gaps but always bots on the other side
  3. Multiplayer - Humans on both sides with bots filling the gaps.

Only problem would be for Steam having to launch before starting the game i suppose

Right, not only that, in the case of 2 or 3 you can choose who you let join, friends or anyone.

What about people playing over a LAN? If a friend wants to join me, but doesn’t have the game, that would’t be possible offline?

(Crynidemth) #8

Assuming you’re talking about PC version, how exactly is your friend going to join you if he doesn’t have the game?

(DarkangelUK) #9

Previous id engine based games allowed you to install the game on multiple machines and play local only, obviously only 1 could go online with the serial entered.

(Crynidemth) #10

Ah i see, i stand corrected then, thanks for the heads up darkangel!
Hadn’t known about that as i’ve no other pcs/laptops around the house to install on.

I hope it’ll be like ETQW where you can play on LAN without a license, that’s a very easy way to advertise the game. I know my friends would download the game for LAN otherwise anyway.

(Senethro) #12

Given that the game will be Steamworks and will always only run through Steam unless cracked, I don’t see how Lan verisons could be supported out of the box.

Left 4 Dead runs without Steam running…
