Tihan, I know that feeling.
I think it will be hard to stop them from hosting your map. But you can try (talk to them and ask them not to do it). But, the problem is to know how to contact them. It is hard to get int contact with the server admin sometimes.
I can tell you a related story: I was doing my first ET map ever. 4 weeks ago (july 2003). It was a single room. Two spawnpoints (1 for axis, 1 for allies). The most advanced things in this room were health and ammo cabinets, a rotating fan, and a small tunnel with water in it. Nothing fancy, in other words.
Just 1 Mb. I made it for myself. I gave it a cool name. I used the command map from another custom map (I did that just to “look and learn” - to see how the real mappers do it. I couldn’t do a command map myself back then.)
What happened? Well, I had started a server (the Host Game function in ET you know). I ran around in my room.
Lost interest. Did something else.
The days went by. I worked in my garden. I did some cleaning. Everyday activities.
Then I went back to the pc, to play some ET. What did I see, in the server list? THERE WAS A SERVER OUT THERE, THAT HAD MY MAP! And there where people in there, fragging away.
Someone must have downloaded the map, that day (while a was away from the computer ?)!! And now it was out there - in the public!
It is a crappy map, Im ashamed over its poor quality. It’s just a single room. And it has a command map from another map makers custom map. (I had to write and apologize to that map maker, but - thankfully - he said it didnt matter. What a cool guy.)
Tihan, as you can see, this has happened to others too.
Lesson for us noob mappers: Always use password protected servers, when we playtest early versions of our maps.
A rather lengthy post, but I had to tell my story.
