Sign-In error. [STEAM]

I received a beta key to activate the game on STEAM today but I’m having this problem:

This happened to me months ago when I first received a beta key to install trough nexon launcher and It never worked. I tried literaly everything I could to solve this but was never successful, I tried reinstalling the game, I tried reinstalling nexon launcher, restarted my computer severall times and I even went ahead and formatted my computer at the time and the game NEVER worked, always this same sign-in error. I invited a friend to the game with the extra keys I received and he told me he could get into the game just fine, so I even went ahead and created another account with the last extra key I had but once again, same problem. I pretty much gave up on the game but some time after I tried again, same problem. I then decided I was going to wait untill the game got released to see if the problem would be gone by that time, but I got pretty happy when I saw the game would be available on STEAM but as you can see, the problem still chases me…even on our beloved Steam… Useless to say that at the time nexon support never answered a single ticket I sent about this.
I’ve entered tons of betas, Neverwinter, Arche Age, Strife, Dawngate, Special Forces 2, Nosgoth, Hearthstone, and a lot more, you name it, and this is the only game I was NEVER able to play and it is the one I was more interested in playing (must have done something really bad to deserve this…).

This post is my last hope to solve this problem…please! Thank you.

Im currently experiencing the same issue with Steam.
edit: Had to disable antivirus / some parts of the firewall for it to work, running Bitdefender Total.

Can you explain what you did exactly? I’m actually using the same anti-virus, I even added exceptions for every .exe I could find within the dirtybomb folder but didn’t work.

things like NetLimiter will be problematic

I’m using Bit Defender as well, and would like to know what exactly you did Dwu.

Some people have problems with antivirus quarantining/deleting files as soon as they are downloaded. Easiest way to test is to disable your antivirus then re-download/verify they game files.

(Sincerity) #8

I already know that my Antivirus Program Is the problem but I don’t know which of the Dirty Bomb files I have to allow In It.

Edit: I found out which files we have to allow in our Antivirus program: “shootergame-win32-shipping.exe” and “xxd-0.xem”

Added those files to the antivirus exceptions and added a manual “allow” to “shootergame-win32-shipping.exe” on the firewall, didn’t work. I’ll try installing it on my other laptop that doesn’t have any antivirus software installed atm. I’ll update you guys in a bit.

Thats weird because It worked for me and I’m using the same Antivirus as you do

(FabiopxK) #11

Guess what, it works on my other laptop. It has no antivirus software in there, not even windows stuff, its pretty much a clean new install, and it works there (but that pc just doesnt have the power to handle it lol). I’ll contact bitdefender or something to see if they can reach the Dirty Bomb staff about this and work on it…I really don’t want to throw away my bitdefender key since I even have a spare one already for when this one expires, I’ve never had a problem with it before.

Btw, did you only add those exception like I did or did you disable anything?

(Dwu) #12

Quick way to get yourself to login is to disable both antivirus and the firewall before you start up the game and then put them back on once you’ve passed the authentication.

(FabiopxK) #13

Yeah, disabling it seems to do the trick for me.

(TheLoveNinja) #14

Same thing happens to me… and I too use bitdefender, I added both the exections to shooter.exe the 0 etc etc.d whatever their called and disabeld firewall and protection and STILL no luck… FUUU- I want to play…!!!

(Sincerity) #15

Just do what Dwu suggested, works for us.

(FabiopxK) #16

Yeah, after adding those exceptions it also didn’t work for me, then I disabled “On-access scanning”, “Active Virus Control” and the “Firewall” and I was able to sign-in. When I finished playing I enabled those things again and now I can still play just fine without disabling anything. That’s some really strange stuff lol.

Either way I have contacted Bitdefender saying this seems to be a common problem among Bitdefender users and they are now aware of it. They asked me to do some things to see which security module could be causing this issue and I told them what things I disabled in order to be able to play, they must be looking into it.

(strawLava) #17

I’ve followed all the steps above (disabling Bitdefender’s firewall and AV), verified integrity of game files after doing so (one file downloaded) and tried to play with no success. Not sure if there’s something deeper in my Bitdefender that needs to be shut off or what.

EDIT
Completely uninstalled Bitdefender Total Security and I’m in.

POSSIBLE FIX

Well, let me tell you how to fix it without needing to uninstall anything (it’s not really good to leave your computers vulnerable just cause you want to play a game).

So the fix for the authentication_failure and others created by the firewall/antivirus is as simple as:

Go to Steam, right click on Dirty Bomb and click on Properties, go to Local Files tab and then select Verify integrity of game cache, once it’s done, you’ll see one file was corrupted. Now restart, and right after the restart, disable both Firewall and Antivirus and open the game. Once the game allows you to play, close the game and enable both Firewall and Antivirus and you won’t get the issue again.

I assume the issue starts with the file (possibly from the XIGNCODE) not being able to write certain information (permission rights and stuff). I tried first without restarting and it wouldn’t fix so tried after a fresh restart and worked out perfectly (I have BitDefender like many of you)

PS: For BitDefender users, if you wanna make sure it works (as i did) just disable everything (Active Virus Control and real-time, Web Protection, Intrussion Detection and Firewall) since it’ll take only a few minutes. Even when only with AVC, Real-time and Firewall should be enough, it might not be.

NOTE THAT IF THIS DOESN’T FIX THE PROBLEM and you get the error again, you’ll get it as long as you don’t verify the game cache again, since the file gets “corrupted” and wont change anymore. So again verify the game cache with steam and try everything else until it gets fixed.

I run no antivirus and have windows firewall off always and I occasionally get the error and I can’t join back for an hour or so.
