shurb mod and custom maps

(Higgins) #1

I have made 5 maps altogether now, each and every one of them make shrub crash et when ever you change the map. It will load up the loading screen and then stop, and et crashes.

But all of the maps I have made work fine on all other mods, and on normal ET.

The thing I hate is that every one elses maps they have made, work fine on the shrub mod when changing maps.

Has any one else had this problem, because it is really really annoying me now!

Even with Lowlife compiling it for me, the map would crash.

I would give any mappers my pk3 to look over if you want to help me out here.

I really need help, its annoying me to much now.

Same problem here, Shitstorm servers , running shrub, have my map in rotation (v1rocket_b2) and a few people seem to have problems with the map; causing it to either ‘freeze’ ET or crash it. Strange thing is that only a few people are having this problem. For most players the map runs just fine… I released the map on may 2004 so it’s been playing for over 8 months , all this time servers running ETpro or ETmain had no problem whatsoever, so I can only guess it’s a shrubmode-bug / problem…
It’s hard to track the problem as they don’t receive any error messages in the console.

Its a pain in the arse, thats what I know. Its a joke that every other mapper seems to beable to get their maps to run on shrub with out it crashing when the next map is due, or when some one changes the map.

Send me one or give me a link…PM me for address.
I will be gone all weekend though…I am having a weekend long Birthday Bash. WoooooHooooo!!!
Expect reply on Monday. :fiesta:  :drink: :rocker2:

(Higgins) #5

Ill talk to you when you get back then.

  1. shrub crashes about 2-3 tiems a week on the shit-storm servers and they are linux (don’t ask me how i know cause i do)
  2. shrub crashes 3-5 times a day on a windows box

bottom line is shrub

i wouldn’t worry about it too much.

(Higgins) #7

Looks like ill have to force my mate to make the server et pro

(EB) #8

I agree, but I will still take a look at your stuff on Monday.

Shrub only crashed my old servers about 1 time every 2-3 days…and that was version 1.2. I had overwritten the main driver file though. They had even gone as long as a week and a half before crashing.

Don’t cast aside the shrub so easily. Afteall, 3-5 times a day is a little drastic, sounds more like a different problem.

(Higgins) #9

its my maps that crash it, and it doesnt crash because its running the map, it crashes because of the map change, when the map is changed, shrub mustnt be able to cope, so it crashes. Its stupid that it does it, I could have my map in a new rotation on my mates server by now if it didnt do what it does.

Load my custom map onto a shrub server
>>
Play it, or go and change the map right away
>>
When its loading the next map, it would crash ET
>>
Shrub is a bastard, my pk3’s are no different to any others, yer other maps work on a map change!!!

(eRRoLfLyNN) #10

How many maps in rotation?
How many pk3 on server?
What point is your map in the rotation?
Have u tried on different Shrub server?

Ask them to put your map at different point in the rotation, see if it helps.

(sorry i just read the part in your last post about it crashing when it loads on its own…)

(Higgins) #11

Well, if you run shrub with one map and no campaign, my maps will run like any other maps. When I test it on my own, with out a dedicated server and load my map first, I can play it with out any probs. As soon as I want to change a map it would crash in the loading area.

My mates rotation has 10 maps, but in the past, some other hosts tried running my maps and am sure they had a lot of maps on the server, my maps didnt work for the campiagns. I will go test now on a clean et with shrub.

(SCDS_reyalP) #12

etmain also has problems if their are too many campaigns on the server. (it is limited to 64 campaigns. Note that there can be more than one campaign per file, but the limit is on campaigns, not files). Shrub may have the same problem.

ISTR zinx telling me etmain also had some trouble with 10 map campaigns.

(Erus Nauction) #13

actually eb no it isn’t drastic. with window 2003, shrub crashes random from 1-4 times a day. the longest itwent for was 36 hours without a crash.

switched to etpro and server has never crashed. been up for weeks since the switch and no problems. Not just that, the S.S. servers in the beginning where windows and the shrub did the same thing.

Shurb 1.2 works best on linux. Shurb for windows which is 1.3 sux and is buggy which causes the crashes. Basically i don’t suggest running shrub if your OS is windows. Keep that in mind EB you had linux and shrub 1.2 not windows, shrub and windows don’t agree.

(SCDS_reyalP) #14

ETpro does some in-memory patching of server bugs. ISTR that includes some fairly nasty stability ones.

(FireFly) #15

I was just wondering, ETpro is being updated on a regular basis ( latest version is 3.1.9 , I believe) Is this the same case with Shrub?
According to http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/shrub/ The latest version for etshrub is 1.1 and is dated 29 july 2003…
So is Etshrub nolonger being updated?

(Englander) #16

Latest shrub is 1.2 for ET ,shrub will not be updated anymore for ET.

(Erus Nauction) #17

Englander: you forgot that is linux version

latest and final for windows in 1.3

and yes, that is correct, there are to be no new updates.

(EB) #18

I had never mentioned what OS the servers were running. It was WINDOWS. I also had a dedicated server from my home behind a router running shrub 1.2 on win XP and that crashed every 3-5 days.
(I am not worried about it, but I just wanted to let you know Erus. It’s not a big deal 2 me.)
{:nag: << What I do in threads…blah blah blah}

----***Hey I thought shrub stopped at 1.2 test 13, Not version 1.3 ? I could search for it, but I am lazy today. Anyone know the [gangsta]truthisis[/ganagsta] ?

(Erus Nauction) #19

lol, now that is a neat emoticon.

(Heirpie) #20

the most stable version is 1.2-test12 on linux, I had the 13 but it has some issues…, the windows version does not like the XP save…

Nuff said…
