Show people NetVars

(Awpteamoose) #1

Why all the numbers are hidden from people? Why do we have to hack in and debug weapons just to get the numeric data instead of those poorly informative bars that don’t even represent the real values?
Since NetVars is just a text file, why aren’t we allowed to see that? DenKirson did quite a good job at mining a little piece of data, but apparently he gave up and we’ll never see how much damage a grenade actually does, how useful is kevlar and what’s the difference between medium and gatling turret.
Or maybe it is available and I just missed it somehow. Don’t know. Hope not since I’d look stupid then.

Or failing a full reveal, tell what gets changed when.
Carb-9 has definitely been slightly nerfed…

(PsYcHo) #3

And for me it seems like they have buffed the Maximus?
I killed the enemys much faster then a few days ago^^

(Deadwalking) #4

Definitely could use with some heads up on the nerfing and buffing. It really shouldn’t be a secret, makes it extremely difficult to know what gun to chose having no idea what the damage, RoF, Reload speeds and such are.

Not sure if it is network, cheats or buff/nerfs that is allowing so many one shot kills. Seems a bit ridiculous though for a game designed to eliminate One Shots.

(Overgear) #5

This is definitely something that should be looked out. I’ve been 1 hit as a light unbuffed by things that aren’t a Buffed Barnet headshot many times.

I would also love to see some hard stats instead of silly bars.

(GeneralGideonx) #6

Actual stat numbers would be wonderful! Not that COD or many other FPS give the players that, but if Brink did that would rock!

If nerfs/buffs are made to anything SD should tell us… that is need to know information and can have major impacts on weapon choice and body choice.

(FireWorks) #7

As far as i got it, they are tweaking the values right now and when its done, they will release all the variables that are locked right now.

(InfiniteStates) #8

That would be awesome if it’s true - where did you get that information?

(Not accusing btw, genuinely interested)

(Deadwalking) #9

You are probably right about that, but not informing people so that actual feedback can be acquired is the wrong method of implementation.

(FireWorks) #10

Ill have to dig the through the forum but I think both statements are SD posts. But they also dont have time to repeat stuff 20 times so info gets lost easily in quickly flooded forum.

But you can see that they are working at it at the much slower unhack time on shipyard compared to other maps. I also believe that my carb is worse now but thats subjective.

Theres also the way of checking statistics, which is far less subjective then asking every single player for an opinion.

(Herandar) #11

I checked with Badman recently. They will let us know when they modify Netvars.

(Awpteamoose) #12

I don’t want to just know when they modify it, I want to know their values. Spread, damage, recoil, speed, etc.

open the file in free hex editor and you will be able to see all ascii strings

And? Which file? What should I look for?

(raib) #15

QL and TF2 devs, to name just a few, don’t hide any relevant hard numbers behind game mechanics. Why should SD? Given the bad state of balance this is even more important.

I agree be nice to know what exactly they are doing when they do something to the game. Also I couldnt agree more with the OHK which were not suppose to be sucha big issues yet I seem to be OHK all the time by things which shouldnt be able to ohk me.

(king_troll) #17

open any file of any file type, plain asscii inside the file will be shown on the right of the hex, open netvars file or other generated game file that has weapon settings etc in

id says idtech5 is virtually impossible to mod without releasing a SDK, the hex editor is the virtually

(Je T´aime) #18

So hm if guns stats changed, maybe let us know what was changed so we can choose new guns according to that.
