Shouldn't health insurance give XP from BEFORE the heal?

Especially playing a merc like Sawbonez, you want to heal after the fight. Now that the window has been reduced, I think the XP you draft is even more random, because the first few seconds after a heal the enemy is most likely dead or you are regrouping. Aura plays differently sometimes where mercs can ride the health station, but point healers run out of healing.

Also the difference between competitive and casual is significant. A medpack healer is way less effective with 7 teammates than he would be with 4 teammates. Area healers scale up better.

I realize it might be much more difficult to keep track of XP previously earned, but I think the result would be more payout for good medics and less randomness. Additionally, the amount of drafted XP could be scaled to the amount of healing done.

As a medic main, I can say the main reason health insurance is awarded based on XP gained after is likely to discourage tap revives and the like.
Imagine a new player.

  • “Oh, this rhino just got a godlike and then died? I better give them a 30 HP revive. Who cares if they die afterwards, I got my XP for doing nothing”

VS:

  • “Oh, a rhino just died? I better help them as best I can to get that sweet sweet XP!”

Yes, medics in ranked are different from casual too, but so are a lot of things really. But I’m not sure what that really has to do with XP. Sawbonez is still a top pick in comp, even if his medpacks are different from medstations. Both mercs are used for different things. Good luck pushing with an aura. But a sawbonez? Sure. Changing how XP is awarded won’t somehow give one merc an advantage over another in comp. Most people don’t play comp for XP after all, they pick who their team needs.

Regardless of the merc you’re playing though, I don’t think it really matters. Health insurance still rewards good medics, and the overall “randomness” isn’t that much if you know what to expect. All changing the system would do is encourage new players to adopt bad strategies, with no real benefit.

Just consider health insurance xp a part of the xp your teammates did after being healed/revived and wouldn’t have done if you weren’t there.

No because the xp they got before you healed them wasn’t really thanks to you and they would’ve gotten it even if you were dead.
But I can’t guarantee you they would’ve gained the xp after the heal without your help.

Why should you be awarded for other players doing well without your help?

Oh look, another complaint that casual and comp are too different from each other

It’s almost like they should do something about that
