Should Bushwhacker turret receive damage BEFORE fully deployed and operational like it is now or make it receive damage only AFTER full deployment?
Should turret receive damage BEFORE fully deployed?
Before, dropping one in the heat of battle so you have an extra gun by your side is already scraping an advantage without the thing being invulnerable while doing so.
can you please elaborate for those that never played TF2 ?[/quote]
Basically you could drop a mini sentry and it wouldn’t be destroyed until it was fully deployed, it was easily exploitable and encouraged spam rather than smart placement.
Well the mini-sentry could still be destroyed before being deployed if you landed 2 rockets on it or if you were a demoman…basically it just had fast regen while being built just like the pre-built level 3’s.
Maybe slightly reduce damage before it gets deployed, but I think it’s good how it is now
You can place a turret and use it to hide behind to reload or reduce incoming damage for yourself to stall. That’s enough of an advantage when deploying it in a firefight. Making it immune to damage and then be able to do actual damage itself in a firefight is a pretty odd thing to want if you’re interested in balance.
Proper turret placement and knowing when to use it is part of the skill ceiling with the merc.
Part of the balance and skill of turret deployment is in the time it takes them to actually deploy - if they were made invuln during that time they would become very overpowered imo.
In a large fire fight it would basically guarantee damage to opponents if it was activated. I’m not sure that’s balanced
As it is now, it’s more of a trap for unwary players, like all engineer class abilities. Making it too offensive would change how bushwackers plays, making him much more combat orientated. As it is now, promotes sneaky turret fun.
I think it should have an very small delay. This will cause a small diversion making it more usuable in fights. As of now its use in fights is zero.
When an ability is only usable outside fights the attacking role of bushwacker is quite limited. Basically in matchmaking you can use the ability only half of the match, only when defending. This might even it up quite nicely, bringing more diversion of teams too.
Anybody see bushwackers using it in competitive as an shield to hide behind during fights? I never did anyway.
I wonder what you all would think ^^. hides for the incoming barrage
@Opicron I see where your coming from, but I think bushwacker isn’t meant to have much combat use, as that’s for assault and fire support classes.
And you can still use turrets on attack, especially if you can find alleys with high foot fall, e.g. On bridge, defending the generator.
That’s like saying when Rhino is taking out his minigun he’s invincible. Or when any merc is deploying something or throwing objects they are invincible. No, it’s their problem that they planned it badly.
What you can do when you are in need and you decide to put your turret down to help you when you are face to face is to shoot the person so their priority is to kill you before you kill him instead of the turret.
That sentence was so redundant with words lol.
If you want to deploy your turret in a hefty situation, place yourself in front of it and do the human shield. This is generally enough and you have good chances to not get killed in the meantime.
The deploying time is in my opinion short enough to not require that sort of thing. If the turret gets destroyed while deploying, that’s generally because you’ve over-estimated or were totally unaware of the close situation. And personally I really don’t think bushwacker needs this. A well placed or well timed turret is already a strong game changer. Sometimes I only use it as an attention catcher ability which is powerful on its own.

I don’t think i would say it’s a game changer, it’s only useful against players caught off guard. I’ve literally just stood in front of several and destroyed them before a shot was fired, with my bushwhacker no less.
personally i think the turret should be weaker, so much time wasted peaking, prefiring, rinse, repeating when not playing an explosive class when you could actually killing real enemies or setting up an offense/defense.
