Should there be a way to reroll obsidian loadouts?

So we al know that with the next update we’ll get a new obsidian card, However, a lot of people seem to be sad that it is the KE81 only, so this sparks a question, should you be able to reroll an obsidian card?

Obsidians are designed to be limited edition and come in specific loadouts. I’m fairly certain there will never be an option to re-roll these, and will likely not even be considered. It’s just the way they are designed :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not sure that allowing players to reroll or choose an obisidian loadout is the correct path, but I do think there is room for improvement. After all, there isn’t much point to a super special obsidian loadout if it is one that few players want to use.

For example, the upcoming Phoenix obsidian is for a reasonable loadout but probably not an optimal one. The primary weapon isn’t really an ideal pairing for Phoenix. As the combat medic of choice Phoenix is usually fighting at rather close range where the accuracy of the Hochfir is wasted; I’ve personally had the most success with the Crotzni. From what I’ve heard Get Up is considered the most valuable augment for Phoenix, because the longer you take to revive someone the more likely it is they die first (or you die). Therefore I believe the CR43 Classic Operative would be the ideal Phoenix loadout and would have been a preferable obsidian.

Maybe next time there can be a thread announcing the obsidian ahead of time that lets players vote on which loadout will win. There will always be someone unhappy, but at least this way the most popular choice will be selected. Of course I don’t know what the intent of obsidians is. Maybe they’re supposed to be a good but not great loadout so that players who missed out aren’t as upset.

As much as I want to REROLL MY GODDAMN OBSIDIAN ARTY FOR ANY OTHER MERC BESIDES HIM, no, it’s a special event and we shouldn’t be able to go back and change what we got.

This is what I’d like.
Obsidian/Alienware/Any other event loadout + a bronze(or above) of the same merc = Event card is now the bronze(or above) loadout.

You’d still have to earn the card for the loadout you want and you can still use your special event card when you get your preferred loadout.

I don’t get why people are so adamant about not having the special skin on the players desired loadout, it’s not like they are gaining any power that any player without the skin couldn’t get. I don’t like the idea of having unique skins that make you chose between using your preferred loadout or showing off the event skin (which is really the whole point of them).

EDIT: I wonder how many people that are against this idea are also against separating skins from loadouts.

This would first require an obsidian loadout for every merc.

But yes, instead of talking of re-rolls or whatever methods, I’d prefer by far having skins separated from loadouts.

I don’t like the load out, its got cool which is useless. I prefer the crozni, its a obsidian, but still I don’t see why I would use it. They should just give you the obsidian card in the load out you already have if you have a bronze then give the KE81 to the ones that don’t have a bronze load out or higher.

They don’t “design” the loadout to be special, they designed the skin to be special. Having a great skin wasted on a bad loadout is an insult to both the artists and the players.

I’m not a fan of most Obsidian skins, so it’s not like I want to use mine. But If there was one that I or somebody else liked we should be able to use it without being penalized.

Anyway, I’m pretty certain you would see a lot more Obsidians if they ever separated skins and loadouts. Like they should have in the first place and should still do now.

What @Clown suggested should be implemented, regardless if they plan to separate skins and loadouts down the road.

I dont see why rng should decide who has a card they use and who has a card for a merc they dont enjoy thus never use, it just turns me off to invest more time into it.

this is general for all limited edition cards like alieneware skyhammer, I dont think its reasonable that I should have to make a new account just to be able to enjoy the alienware skyhammer. ofc you shouldnt be able to reroll the obsidian phoenix into a beta card but only to other cards of the same “edition” ie beta card into another beta card or alienware card into another alienware card.

Don’t really see the need of rerolling these, but wouldn’t be against it either. So yeah, I don’t give a damn.

I am, but reroll makes rng into a matter of time before you get it right instead of being stuck with crap, you will never use, forever?
