I’ve always thought the spread penalty for strafing is out of place in DB. It makes sense in CS and BF where the combat is designed to take place while standing still or moving very slowly, but that’s not the case in DB. Dirty Bomb’s combat is about dodging and tracking moving targets. I’ve just never really understood why they bothered putting a spread penalty on strafing when you’re basically always supposed to be dodging during combat.
Should Strafing Increase Spread
According to the crosshair, there’s a spread penalty for strafing. I’m not saying it’s huge or anything, I just don’t understand why they would even bother with it.
Honestly, just regular strafing should not have a penalty. Jumping should defintely affect spread
I think it’s fine as it is. I honestly didn’t even notice any spread penalty with strafing.
I don’t think removing it would be a huge deal, but the game really isn’t impacted much with it.

Hurt me deeply. When you learn to track heads, you’ll notice it’s impact.
Everyone here is spitting stats and numbers while I’m just sitting here eith 10.6% Accuracy.
Strafing never felt like it bloomed the gun, but jumping sure does, and it should.
Yeah jumping makes a huge impact on spread which it should since it makes the headshot hitbox less exposed when you’re above someone and it has instant acceleration, unlike strafing which takes some time to reach max speed, so it will force people to miss at least 1 or 2 headshots. Strafing has a much smaller impact on spread, to the point where it’s difficult to really notice, but I don’t see why it should have any impact at all. Why encourage, even if it’s in a very minor way, people to stand still during combat and slow down gameplay in a game that’s all about tracking and dodging during combat?
Now that I think about they kinda do the same thing with aimpunch. I’ve seen them argue it’s so minor it makes no difference. Well if that were true, then why bother having it? In reality, it does make a difference but not to people with bad aim.
Without any numbers, because SD hate transparency for some reason, I can’t say for sure how much impact this spread penalty has, but I’m guessing its impact is similar, albeit much smaller, than the impact of aimpunch where it has basically no effect on people with bad aim but will cause people with good aim to miss headshots they otherwise would have hit.

I have ~34% accuracy on my more recent weapons, and about 800 hours in game.
Sure I’m not MLG, but it’s really not something that’s noticeable to 95% of people who play this game.
I’ve known people with godlike combat skills who didn’t even know spread was a factor in this game.

aimpunch is useful for shooting with guns with big boolets
if ‘godlike’ players don’t know that this game has spread they’re far from godlike or all their ‘skill’ comes from burst rifles.
Just strafe while firing full auto with an m4 outside of cqc and you’ll instantly notice the retarded amount of rng spread.

That’s insane that they wouldn’t notice spread at all. Even when you’re standing still, the spread is really noticeable especially after the first 4 or 5 shots. Maybe the people you’re talking about are putting up high scores with their abilities and game knowledge but I can’t believe they’d be very good aimers and not notice the spread. Pretty much all the comp players I talked to a couple years ago agreed it would probably be better if spread was reduced across the board for all weapons except shotties.

Sorry, that’s my bad. Increased spread with strafing, you’re right, standard spread is very obvious
