Should Splash Damage add an Objective Specialist section to the Tutorial?

The game has a bit of a learning curve. The tutorial does a decent job at bringing new players to speed but it doesn’t explain the importance of Objective Specialists. Having a good Objective Specialist can make or break victory. So, adding a O.S. section to the tutorial along with adding one to the free roster will help in the wrong run. (Bushwhacker could be a good choice due to being fairly simple and being a familiar face for players who come from other FPS’s like TF2, or Overwatch.)

To me, the ideal tutorial would include a single map run through that includes all objective types, that also mirrors the already available maps in Dirty Bomb. Things that should be explained:

  1. Objective Types
  • EV Repair and Escort
  • EV Destruction
  • C4 Plant
  • Carriable Delivery
  • Carriable Extraction
  • Secondary Objective - Area of Denial / Alternate Routes
  • Secondary Objective - Bridge Second Section (Not sure what to call this)

Note: Not all of these have to be physically completed, and rather can be explained by the Narrator, e.g. Carriable objectives, have the player complete a Delivery, and have the Narrator explain that you may have to “steal” them rather than deliver them.

Compiling all of these lessons into a long linear map, having each section mirror the objectives found in the core Dirty Bomb maps, will both teach new players how each objective functions, whilst simultaneously familiarising them with particular sections of the maps, to hopefully not leave them completely confused as to where to go or what to do on their initial games.

I don’t want to offend anyone, but… are people really that stupid so they can’t figure out who is responsible for what aspect of the game? Maybe they shouldn’t play in DB in the first place.

Don’t get me wrong, but I think this is for really stupid people, who can’t learn based on their own observation. People can’t be that dumb. After you reach level 5 you know exactly what merc is doing what. Maybe some information added to the description of each merc:

Aura
“I’m responsible for keeping you alive as long as possible…”

Proxy
“I will mine the hell out of this place so noone will plant C4… in the meantime I WILL repair EV, I’m good at it”.

Yes, they are.

People can’t be that dumb

Yes, they can.

What’s sad is that the majority of newer players come under this assumption.

Any tutorial won’t teach them sense of movement. I mean, if someone dies in spot A (we can see names on the screen/hud) then we know there is at least one enemy there. If people can’t observe the simplest thing on earth - copycat other’s game/moves then we are lost. Knowing the map is one thing, using this knowledge is another.

I guess I will have to change my opinion. Based on what you just mentioned, those people need to know what merc is doing what role in a team.

I don’t like it tho
