Should Proxy Mines be Nerfed?

Well I play Proxy a lot and i think is pretty unfair that mines have so much AOE on top of that you can Shoot them and kill plenty of characters and Deployable.

I think a way to fix this would be:

  1. To make the cool down longer
  2. Make it so that you cannot shoot a mine if it’s not armed
  3. If a proxy throws a mine and dies before its armed the mine has no effect or well disappears.

Fragger and fletcher literally do the same thing from across the map but proxy has to be 2 feet away on top of having 90 hp max, if you die to this you literally deserve it, how is this broken.

I just think they should make it so that the mine can’t be shot until armed. Would maybe get rid of these pizza delivering proxy’s.

If they take away her ability to shoot unarmed mines, honestly in my opinion she’s pretty damn terrible. Half of her offense is being able to allahu akbar quickly.

The mines just need a smaller range, and a longer cool down. Even if it is only 5 seconds.

I was a Proxy main for a long time, and I still enjoy using her from time to time, but they gave her a buff last year which gave her mines more range and a shorter cool down, and it was unnecessary imo. I’m not even sure why they gave her such a buff, because no one complained she was underpowered at the time.

Wrong section.

I think nerfing it so shooting a mines before they are armed will do only 50% damage is a fair nerf. No need other stuff
Oh yeah and nerf the ability to spam jumps, it will affect all mercs but Proxy will be affected the most of it

Fragger is not an engineer
Fletcher deals a maximum of 100 dmg per sticky
Proxy on the other hand IS an engineer AND has TWO explosives that are comparable to Fragger’s Frag grenade

LOL, I come from W:ET where engis had 10 invisible mines and 9 rifle grenades, 4 frag grenades and everyone still played medic and spammed for ammo constantly

we also had 64 player true chaos servers

This discussion… again.

Her abiity is only one that literally gets countered by experience. Never get to objective without mine check, learn 4-5 corners on map where Proxies plant their mines and you will barelly die to any. Learning long jump and Bomb squad load out also help.

Proxy needs to run to you with melee, throw a mine, switch weapon and shoot it. You can kill her while she runs, while she trows mine, while she switches weapon or just step 2 meters away and shoot her after mine exploded. With same success she may kill you with shotgun even faster instead wasting mine. Meanwhile Fragger, Fletcher and Nader will send you a present(s) from comparatively big range and you won’t do anyting with it.

If you pass the corner without mine check and die - it’s your fault.
If you rush to objective like dumb - it’s your fault.
If you run to lonely health/ammo station without mine check and die - it’s also your damn fault.
If you follow Proxy and don’t expect mine - guess what?
If you let Proxy run 10+ meters with melee, throw mine and detonate it - it’s your fucking fault you don’t learn.

I think #3 isn’t that bad of an idea due to Proxy being spammy with all the huge AOE explosions that at close distances do ridiculous amount of damage.

Oh, so it isn’t just me? I’ve seriously considered ripping out my Xonar DX to check if on the integrated Realtek card mines will always emit noise.

I don’t think she needs a nerf. If anything, I would maybe be on board with a slight cooldown nerf. I just think she’s gotta have something going for her. She’s literally a worse Fletcher. Anything she can do he can do better. Sure, his stickies do much less damage, but he gets 3 of them and they have very short cooldowns, meaning he almost always has at least two of them ready to go. Plus he can throw a sticky, get behind cover, detonate it, repeat 3 times, and go in and clean up with his shotgun or machine pistol sidearm. Proxy has to throw her mine, take out her gun, aim at the mine, and shoot it. I agree with Apofenas. Most of the time, mines can be avoided with experience and map awareness. On top of that, there’s bomb squad, so yeah…

@Rawr @Apofenas what am I supposed to against mines upstairs? Like on MG entrance @ terminal last. I define balance as if you have certain skill you can counter it. I can’t seem to avoid mines no matter how often I longjump/walljump to counter them

What about using your own explosive or new EMP armor to take it out? There are like 5 mercs with If that’s not an option than may just try to jump off the wall and shoot it.

As annoying as proxy is, i just don’t think she is OP. If a player can get in close enough to enemies, with 90hp, and is able to throw down the mine and shoot it quickly, she deserves the kills. To counter this you just need more awareness of the proxies to try and halt them before they blow up the mine. It’s not that hard.

Yeah I don’t think proxy is OP with her mines.

The 1 thing that does irk me is certain locations of mines (like at the top of the stairs towards the MG balcony on terminal), simply cannot be gotten past without getting killed/taking damage/using a cooldown due to the lack of possible angles to shoot it from.

I would like to be able to crouch up to her mines and defuse them, even if it took 2 or 3 whole seconds to do so… but that of course is a nerf and would require a slightly larger trigger and blast area to compensate (so naab scrubs not paying attention can ruin your day).

Fragger also has a better gun, and doesn’t have to leave himself open for any time other than the ‘throw’ of the explosive (while Proxy has to throw it and THEN shoot it, exposing herself for much longer), and Fragger’s nade has MUCH farther range, and Fragger’s nade can be rebounded around corners.

You can’t just say that Proxy’s mines shouldn’t be strong simply because she’s an engineer - she already has MASSIVE disadvantages compared to combat mercs like Fragger.
