Should players be allowed to close their own threads?

Probably would never happen due to technical limitations, but curious to see what you guys think of this, whether it would be good for the community or not, and what kind of wild things might happen if such an option was implemented.

We already close threads for players who request it typically. There are some cases where we won’t due to the discussion going on being pretty relevant and a hot-button topic. But in most cases we close them on request. So an option to self-close wouldn’t be a huge change but I wouldn’t be against it.

@Amerika You guys do a good job at it too. I could see it getting some use at night time when most mods are sleeping, but then again, not many posters are up that late at night anyways.

some guy got their argument slashed right off the bat and wants rage thread close.

but i think calling mr. @Amerika , Sire @Eox and guy @Ardez to close thread is still a good option.

im extremely against closing your own threads. why not add edit rights to comments from other people in that case?

as OP, imo, you are only that - the opening post. everything after that is a public domain.

closing interesting threads just because the OP has a whim is a farce!

LunarTM could close this thread, and then make a new one asking if we should be able to close our own threads so you could vote again.

As for the actual question, I’ve seen lots of threads with great discussions and arguments that the OP was unhappy with, so I think giving the OP the power to shut down discussion if they don’t like where it is going is a bad idea.

I’ve only asked for a thread to be closed once, and that was because it eventually turned into a 2-page-long insult fight.

This won’t exist due to it being a technical limitation. If I gave everyone the power to close threads, they could close every thread and not just their own.

There is currently not a way for the forum to do this.

So then right now the survey is moot since the ability for the individual user to close their own thread does not even exist in the coding of this site. Still. I think it was an interesting question.

on the other hand… what could possibly go WRONG by allowing every one to be able to close every thread. Every one behaves here. o:) just kidding of course. :slight_smile:

I never actually expected this to happen. I was aware that for such a thing to happen there would be some intense coding changes that had to have been done for something so trivial. I guess it was more of a “What if” kind of poll.

Sorry if that did come off stronger than I really meant it. I honestly don’t mind “What if” kind of things myself. I believe I was mainly trying to repeat the reality of our current situation before some one took the “What if” scenario too seriously. Probably makes no sense but there it is… :smiley:

Still thinking about what I think about it myself… :slight_smile:

I just assumed it was a “what if” thing since I’ve never been on a forum where you could close your own thread. And as Raz said, Vanilla forums definitely don’t offer that feature out of the box.

I presume that means the Op needs to have her thread closed until the ability to close personal threads becomes an easily integrated option, in which case we can vote on whether or not the option of being able to close your own threads is a good thing. Which in this case, is.

Also, I know for a fact I’d be tempted to close my own threads, though usually only guides I’ve created or “merc creation” ones because they get stupid or I end up going full OCD over my guide… shrugs*

Sometimes there are threads you create late at night that you immediately regret making in the morning and wish you could get rid of forever, and you realize that deleting your posts won’t fix the problem because 20 other people have already commented and quoted you RIP

If people take this question too seriously, I think in that case the thread would eventually be closed but that is a mod call not mine.

Right now i think it is still a “what if” scenario. Not much harm in it right now as long as it is not taken too seriously.
