Should I get Phoenix and the Giveaway? Or get Phoenix for free???

(bellyachingModel) #1

I honestly don’t know what to do, can someone please help me. I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks.

The obsidian card and two elite cases you get for owning Phoenix before the giveaway are far and away worth more than a single merc for free. You very likely may never be able to get this obsidian card ever again and the elite cases are gonna be around $5 each so that’s the same price as buying one merc for cash, except you can only get these for real money.

I would say get Phoenix now so you can get the card. You will never have a chance to the card again after this event.

Phoenix is a really good merc, and if you plan on playing Execution then that self-revive could be a game changer in matches where the enemies gibbing abilities aren’t up to scratch.

(Malkovich) #5

Ignore people that tells you outright to buy the merc first. Have you played Phoenix before? If so, did you like the playstyle? If you don’t there really isn’t much point in getting him just so you can have 2 cases and an Obsidian card that you will never use, that 50k can be put toward Stoker for example or maybe Turtle/Thunder. People forget not everyone cares about Obsidian cards.

(cornJester) #6

Or read everyone’s opinion and decide what is right for you and ignore statements asking you to outright ignore anyone. You disagree with us, so obviously your opinion is the only one worth considering?

If you don’t care about cosmetics and are hurting for credits then wait and get him for free.

On the other hand Obsidian is at least at Cobalt level. Considering that Elite case has 5% chance of dropping a Cobalt with random loadout, and here you have a sure thing with one of the best loadouts (one of top 3 in my opinion), this looks like a sweet deal. The 2 additional Elite cases are just icing on the cake.

I bought Phoenix 5 minutes after he went live so I’m pretty stoked for this update

I don’t even. What. I’m telling him to decide for himself, yet people like are present a one sided argument and I’m the one at fault here? Yeah I’m out.

He specifically asks for peoples opinion on Phoenix and you tell him to ignore exactly he’s asking for

Decide for yourself but ignore these people.

If you aren’t a collector and don’t really care about special cards that just change your appearance even though this is a limited event, it wouldn’t matter. But I mean, I still would get the Obsidian card even though I’m a player who’s good with Bronze cards.

Now that i read this thread, i am happy i liked phoenix’s playstyle.
Otherwise i would have lost 10€ and have a useless obsidian card.
But in my opinion, if you like sawbonez get him.
They are similiar in health and speed (sawbonez 110, phoenix 100 hp)
Healing is easier as sawbonez, but there’s one thing i love about phoenix.
All of his primary weapons are complitely viable, so you don’t have to think about getting a blishlok card.

Healing is easier as Sawbonez out of combat. However one bullet and his medpack regen stops instantly. So healing in combat is far more viable with Phoenix who gives instant health.

Thank you all for answering me so quickly! Don’t worry I think I have made my decision on buying Phoenix. Lots of you have convinced me and I am thankful for you guys. Thanks guys!

It’s a matter of personal value. Do you care about a card that you might not ever want to use for a merc you might never want to use? Is that worth 50k in credits (or $10 if you go that route)? Sure, the elite cases are also in there but you have about as much of a chance of getting something you’d want as I have of being mauled to death by my 6LBS overly affectionate cat.

If I didn’t already own Phoenix I would definitely take him for free over a card I’ll most likely never use (like my FEL IX Vassili beta fighter) and cases that will yield me nothing other than more credits spent on the inevitable failed trade-up (yup, I’m bitter haha). That’s my personal viewpoint. Now you just have to find yours. We all value things differently

Just take your playstyle into consideration. Would you get Phoenix even if these awards were not given out? Completely depends.

I’d say just to get phoenix early so you can receive all of be benefits. He’s a really solid medic, so I would get him regardless.

Tools ? Mouse Pad ? No, this is a nice sofa, so fuck off.

Most people here will advise to take the loadout + elite cases because we’re mostly regular players who already are collecting tons of stuff.
This evening a friend just asked me the same question. But he rarely plays and he’s just level 9 after 2 months of playing DB. So collecting is far from his concerns and Phoenix does not look as a great appeal to him. Thus I advised him to spend his 50k on something he was looking for (Nader) and log after the patch to get Phoenix for free.

I just bought phoenix for $10 and i just looked at it as buying 2 elite cases and getting an obsidian card and a free merc. Looking at it like that makes it an amzing deal

(riptide) #19

Yeah, thanks for that! I just realized I made $10.00 cash, got 2 elite cases and an obsidian card all for 50,000 credits!

This is a tough one, but I think I would go for the free merc, if I was new to the game and still had to unlock a bunch of mercs. I would feel I get more ‘value for money’ (which would be €10 value for no money, with no conditions attached,) because we all know those elite cases are not worth the bucks. Sure, you get a couple of free high tier loadouts, and even a good one with a exclusive recoloured skin (on a standard model) for a merc you are guarateed to own, but it’s not all that exclusive, since everyone who gets a free obsidian card gets the same card. I don’t particular fancy the beta merc skins, but I really dig the beta weapon skins though. I am glad I am spared the dilemma.
If I had been playing for a while and only need to unlock a few mercs and have the credits to unlock him, I would do it, but I would not spend €10, for the sole reason to unlock the rewards, unless I value the exclusive obsidian loadout card at €10, which I personally don’t, but some would say it’s priceless.

So take your pick: free gameplay or free beta skin. Immediate value or long term exclusive recoloured skin?
